Great point. This article is simplistic drivel. We Americans for some reason seem to think alliances are based on love or something. Everything said of Poland now was said for Turkey just a few months ago (even the Trojan horse part).

The truth of the matter is Poland, a weak nation in the middle of two pwerful ones (Russia, Germany) does what it has always done, seek allies. In the last century that ally was the UK and France. Since those nations are compromised with the EU (and not in a position to challenge Germany) the Poles have gone even further West to America.

Napoleon said a nation's foreign policy is determined by it's geography. In Poland's case that means seeking allies against the influence of Russia and Germany.

No love involved. No stupid Old and New Europe categories.

Freeper's do know that the majority of "new" European countries (like Poland) are ruled by the reformed communist parties that were in power during the Cold War, don't they?

It is absurd to say Poland and Turkey are alike. As for old Communists still in power in Poland, some of them were very happy to see the USSR fall.

Poland has many problems but is struggling hard to get her feet on the ground. How does it help to heap undeserved scorn on that nation that has been an excellent ally (unlike the Turks)?

It is true that governments and leaders make decisions for practical and strategic reasons. However, there is something else going on, an appreciation and connection among the average-man-on-the-street in countries that feel supportive of one another's values. Right now I believe there is genuine good feeling among the regular folks of Poland, Australia, Britain and the USA.

This is the first post you have made with which I agree 100%. What's this stupid nonsense about countries loving eachother and being friends and all that BS that some people seem to believe in? There is no such thing as friendship in international politics.
