British newspaper: Al-Sahaf lives in Baghdad suburb, fears of assassination attempt

The former Iraqi information minister, Mohammed Saeed Al-Sahaf, is alive and living in a Baghdad suburb - and still wearing his trademark uniform and beret, according to a British newspaper report.

The Mail on Sunday said it had tracked down Al-Sahaf, ending speculation he had committed suicide or fled the country. The newspaper said it found him "cowering in his modest home, terrified his own people will kill him."

His wife and daughter act as his human shields while his sons had temporarily left their jobs as doctors to help protect him, the report said.

The newspaper described Al-Sahaf - as "a broken man, spending his days pacing his study in his uniform and green beret." He refused to talk to the paper and friends said he may never go out in public again.

"...he may never go out in public again."

Someone needs to talk some sense into this man. He has a big celebrity career waiting for him in the USA. His English is good, his timing unbeatable. War mongering is easy, comedy is hard. He could be the center square! Or, how about a celebrity judge on American Idol? "My initial assessment is you all stink!" He could out-Simon Simon. Somebody get People Magazine on the phone, here's your cover story!

Let's get this straight - he's afraid of an assassination attempt AND he's still wearing the beret and uniform that's been made famous world-wide? Someone advise this guy to switch to jeans and a t-shirt of an American team of his choice.

It is a great lie that Al-Sahad is cowering in his home!

He is even now preparing to host a CNN interview show, and is co-starring in an upcoming movie with J-Lo.

These British liars bellies are being roasted in Hell, even as we speak!

Does he know of all the job offers?

I personally know of several, just from reading Free Republic!

Even George W Bush loves the guy.

It sounds like he's suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Probalby the least warranted case in history.

Someone should go over there and talk sense into him.

I nominate Mark Steyn, who was so recently in the neighborhood. Another laugh-a-minute type of guy, they should get along just fine.

Excellent suggestion! And as a Canadian he should have connections with the Brit reporters to find our Info. Minister. LOL,what a great story this would be, if western conservatives arranged the rehabilitation of this man.

LOL

And bang-on. Just being a reluctant celebrity is amazing enough. For a minister of information, he sure doesn't know how things work, does he?

"...he sure doesn't know how things work, does he?"

I think that is the key. He is confused, and embarassed, and if he's got 1/10th the humanity we all seem to perceive in him, ashamed.

That is why he should come to the USA, the land of 15 second chances for all miscreants. Except Republican miscreants, of course! ;)

Excuse me ... would a person who thought he would be assassinated, be so stupid as to wear a uniform and hat which would make him more of a target ...??

Sorry ... this is a bunch of hogwash!!
