He was then and still is a country boy and a pitbull in the courtroom. But does he "mash" buttons? He's not a real country boy unless he "mashes" buttons, like the buttons on the phone or in the elevator. (As opposed to "pressing" them like everybody else does.)

He did indeed "mash" buttons when riding the elevator. Since I grew up in Alabama, it didn't sound strange at all to me.
