. I grew up in the 1970s, and we never had more than one television set, more than one stereo, no dishwasher, no video games, etc.It does depend on how we measure wealth. If having a television in every room and every video game made, a credit card debt of $15,000, dinner out every night, a 5 year car loan on two cars, and a 30 year mortgage makes you wealthy, then yes we're better now. If paying off a home in 15 years, owning a car that you pay for in 2 years, very little credit card debt, a comfortable life with no debt on one income, nutritious home-cooked meals, then they were better off.

Yep, we have 3 TVs, 3 VCRs, 2 DVD players, 2 good computers and a few old ones (one set up for 2 yr old to play on so he leaves ours alone), and I don't ever cook. That of course is WHY we are always broke. If we lived the way people use to live, we'd have a lot of money in the bank. As it is, it's paycheck to paycheck.
