Santa Rosa Press Democrat ^ | June 4, 2003 | CECILIA M. VEGA

An ID card issued by the Mexican government [Matricula Consular cards] gained significant backing Tuesday in Wine Country as the Napa City Council voted unanimously to recognize it as valid identification...

The cards, however, have become a hot-button issue in the immigration debate, with critics saying they give legitimacy to illegal immigrants and pose a threat to homeland security...

The City Council vote was met with cheers by the audience of about three dozen people, including San Franciso's consul general of Mexico.

"I always say the hardest part is getting the first one to do it," said Consul General Georgina Lagos Donde, adding that she hopes the Napa vote influences other cities in Wine Country, which relies heavily on Mexican vineyard labor.

"I've already been in touch with the mayors of Sonoma and Petaluma," she said...

In a letter to the State Department, 12 House members already complained about Mexican officials lobbying state and local governments here. Despite that, Consul General Georgina Lagos Donde is able to make the statements above.

If you'd like to comment on her campaign, I'd suggest contacting the Mayors of Petaluma and Sonoma.

Contact information for Sonoma Mayor Dick Ashford is here.

Contact information for Petaluma Mayor David Glass is here.

And how does a city usurp valid federal domain? That makes not sense to me unless we are now a collection of fiefdoms in the Hansiatic League.

How does a City Council grant anything like rights to foreign nationals?

But, what's wrong with a card. It is identification, perfect identification. It proves that the bearer is an illegal alien and not eligible for employment. Call INS!

And just how much investigation has the city council done into the production of these cards to figure out whether or not they are actually useful as ID?

If we want to ask federal authorities to arrest city councilmen for aiding and abetting foreign invaders, are there any federal laws that we can cite (like treason, sedition, etc.)?

Well, well..... it looks like the City Council clowns have discovered that family values don't stop at the Rio Bravo.

Aiding and abetting illegal aliens is a crime, and that's what these people are doing. They need to be corrected.

From http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/8/1324.html

knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that an alien has come to, entered, or remains in the United States in violation of law, conceals, harbors, or shields from detection, or attempts to conceal, harbor, or shield from detection, such alien in any place, including any building or any means of transportation... [penalties, forfeiture, etc.]

Whether this could be used to build a suit is another matter.
