This fits into what I posted yesterday:

I think that a Hillary! run in 2008 will hinge on the 2006 NY gubernatorial race. Is Pataki eligible to run again? Who are likely candidates?

If Hillary! runs for Senate in 2006, she risks giving up the seat in 2008. Does New York have laws regarding holding a Senate seat and running for another office simultaneously like Lieberman did in 2000? If Hillary! wins in 2006 and has to give up her seat in 2008, a Republican governor will appoint a Republican to take her place, thereby shifting another Democrat seat to Republican in the Senate.

If Hillary! decides not to run for Senate in 2006, a Democrat may likely retain her seat, but then she runs for president while being out of federal office for two years.

Could a Bill Clinton mayoral stint be "insurance" against losing a Democrat Senate seat in 2006 or 2008?

Could a Bill Clinton governor stint be "insurance" against losing a Democrat Senate seat in 2006 or 2008?

nice theory, but it has one problem.

it requires that the clintons care about something other than themselves and their power. we have never seen any evidence of this.

Lieberman's situation involved running for two offices; he was also up for re-election in the Senate in 2000.

I don't think any state requires a Senator or Congressman to give up his seat if he runs for another office. Hillary would not have to leave the Senate unless she won the 2008 Presidential election.

I've no doubt that we're going to have to endure more Clinton political forays. Try this one on for size:

President Hillary Clinton

Vice-President Bill Clinton

Someone tell me this can't happen please?

Good prediction. This also fits in with Rush's suggestion that the Clintons are attempting to suck oxygen from the rat primary. Pataki is vulerable on taxes. Wouldn't it be sick humor if Bill promises tax cuts again? Just imagine with Bill having guvenotorial pardoning power there. Any crime boss can pay Hugh Rodham a get-out-of-jail fee.

Frankly, I find such a campaign to be a difficult task. Will they offer Bill a tax funded prostitution budget? Will they give him a latex-covered phone? Who will clean his sink? Will Hugh Rodham be allowed in the state? Will Chinese generals be allowed in the state? Will Bill make any tough-on-terrorism speeches there, or would he promise to pardon more bomb terrorists?

One great thing, the Clinton scandal book factories are likely to get a boost. FReegards....
