The Dixie Chicks have postponed a concert in Toronto due to the deadly SARS outbreak in the beleaguered city, the band said yesterday.
The chart-topping country music trio's June 12 show has been moved to Aug. 6 out of fear that crew members could be exposed to the deadly virus and be forced into quarantine, a move that would jeopardize the rest of their North American tour.
The President Bush-bashing, sexy songbirds are the latest in a long line of performers who have canceled or postponed Toronto gigs due to the SARS epidemic.
Canada's largest city has been devastated by the outbreak of the baffling respiratory disease, which is responsible for at least 32 deaths there.
In addition, 64 people probably have the disease, and more than 200 others with SARS-like symptoms are being examined.
Also, more than 5,000 people remain under home quarantine.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization yesterday debated again whether to issue another travel advisory for Toronto in the wake of the city's second outbreak last week.
But the U.N. agency decided against it, saying the new cases appear to be under control, with no spread in the general population.
The first travel advisory - issued April 23 and lifted less than a week later - cost the city hundreds of millions of dollars in lost tourism and convention business.
This is an insult to songbirds everywhere.
This is as close as they're gonna get....
....to being chicks with big knockers.
"What?! You don't like us anymore? Ack!!"
