NEW YORK (AP) _ Here is the full text of New York Times Publisher Arthur Sulzberger's memo to the staff this morning.
As you can see from the attached press release, this morning I accepted the resignations of Howell Raines, our executive editor, and Gerald Boyd, our managing editor. Both Howell and Gerald have made enormous and lasting contributions to The Times over their long and distinguished careers. Given the events of the last month, however, Howell and Gerald concluded that it was best for The Times that they step down. With great sadness, I agreed with their decision. Joe Lelyveld will return to serve as interim executive editor until the selection of new executive and managing editors is made. Since most of you know Joe, you'll understand why we can all be confident that during this interim period the immediate responsibility for the quality of our journalism will be in very good hands.

I'll say it again. Sulzberger is the original commie in charge. He's just changing the lead guy. Nothing will change. The lies from the Times will continue as long as Sulzberger owns the paper.

Wonder if Sulzy would be open to a good Conservative team -- could be an oppy for some FReepers!

Notice - nothing in Pinch's statement about "diversity" in the newsroom. Plus, one of the two guys he fired was a black, who was second to Raines in authority. For all the supposed commitment to diversity, I guess they couldn't face having a black step into the top job. I don't believe poor Boyd was implicated in any of the wrongdoing that Raines was reponsible for, yet he takes the fall. Hope the columnists get on this piece of colossal liberal hypocrisy on the part of the epicene Pinch, a guy who is definitely light in the loafers.

I agree. The way to kill a snake is to cut off its head. If the stockholders get very upset they may ax Pinch. It may be the Sulzberger family controls voting rights on the stock. I am old enough to remember when the Chandler family controlled the LA times. A Chandler son {I cannot remember his name} took over the LA Times in the 60's. Previous to him the paper had been ultra conservative. He vowed to make it into a great paper so he he hired a lot of reporters and columnists from some of the so called "elite" newspapers. The paper immediately bacame liberal because in Chandlers mind, great papers are liberal. The Chandler family was outraged about the change in the papers outlook but could do nothing about. The paper was making a lot of money so they conceded mangement to the younger Chandler. The rest is history.

http://www.nytco.com/investors.html I'm not feeling well today or else I'd do some research as to who the investors are of the NYT. But hopefully someone can look at this and be able to make some sense of *who* the stockholders are.

In addition, I think political persuasions are cyclical. We're in a more conservative era (thankfully), so things *will* swing to the right more eventually. It will take a while.

Thank you for your home page. I never read the full text of President Reagan's speech delivered at the Berlin Wall. Your direct link is most appreciated. How much of our lives are mere sound-bites of reality/history!
I urge all who read this post to take the time to read Mr. Reagan's speech. The concept of "Freedom" itself emerges from the text.

Anyone else see the Irony with Sulzberger in this whole situation?
"May 15th- Raines convenes a two-hour long town hall-style meeting of newsroom staff, accepts blame for the breakdown in communications that allowed Blair's fraud to occur. Asked whether he had considered resigning, Raines said he would not unless it was requested by publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. Sulzberger, seated next to Raines, said he would not accept Raines' resignation even if it were offered."
Looks like he took a page out of Blair's BS instructional book, and lied through his teeth.

What the lefties call "situational" -- rather than ever admitting they are wrong or have lied, the 'situation changes,' so they are justified in doing what they said they wouldn't, etc.

Rumor has it that Raines was protecting Dowd. Things may change for her now.
