Terror for children as police raid home By Susan Adams Jun 7, 2003, 11:40:00

Youngsters returning home from school were terrified when an armed police team swooped on a house in a suburb of Wolverhampton.

Pupils had just finished school when a team of armed officers executed a warrant at a house in Lyndale Drive in Wednesfield at 3.15pm yesterday. Nobody was arrested at that address.

The armed police initiative was part of a three-day operation to crack down on firearms in the Wednesfield and Bilston areas which saw the arrest of two Wolverhampton men.

West Midlands police spokeswoman Sarah Astbury said: "We can confirm during Thursday and Friday, police carried out a series of armed operations around Wednesfield and Bilston to tackle concerns about armed criminality. A 25-year-old man from Wolverhampton was arrest-ed yesterday morning and is helping police with inquiries," she added.

"It was like something out of a movie," said Dorothy Davis, who has lived in the area for 26 years, said:

"It was frightening especially for the children around as well," she added.

A 65-year-old resident, who did not want to be named, said it must have been very distressing for the schoolchildren to see the armed police officers.

Wednesfield South Councillor Helen King said it was unfortunate that it is when children were coming home from school. But she said she hoped police would not have carried out such a warrant had it not been needed.

Chief Superintendent Tom Duffin said: "The public, whilst the sight of armed officers will be alarming, should be reassured that it is not routine for us to employ a large number of armed officers.

"Serious consideration to the risks involved is taken and only on occasions when there is a specific threat.

"This operation was a necessary response to reduce the risks of firearms being used and there will be further operations across the city," he added.

The difference between America and England is that Americans will not peacefully surrender their firearms like the Brits did.

It isn't a list to add people to. It is simply a bump list.

Here's a whole bunch of them: Free Republic Bump List Register

What I do is make links in my profile to the bump lists that I check out frequently then I can just click on them. Check out my links on my profile page to see how I've done this.

Oh, well, as long as it's not routine....

I did not read in the article that they found anything. Oh, well. At least they didn't give anyone a heart attack over their antics.

What do you mean how soon? It's been happening here too. But they don't call the places they raid apartment blocks or residences, they refer to them as "compounds", and they find and sieze caches and arsenals. I guess that makes it alright, because if there's one place where nobody has any business with guns, it's compounds.

I hope the little ruggers didn't get a case of the vapors and lock-up. Imagine. Seeing armed police officers...

Keep them out of Tejas, where they might see armed civilians.
