I know that--I wrote that this was another song related to the same writer of The Prayer.

Have you heard him sing Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring? It sends chills down my spine--it is SO beautiful!

Or plan a sneeze chain, and 30 seconds of some loud, "God bless you"s.I like the way you think.

I have his CD and I listen to it almost every day. It's marvelous!
The first time I heard Josh Groban was on Ally McBeal (of all places). He performed "You're Still You" and captured my heart right at that moment. It's still one of my favorite songs!
As an aside, I am one of the few folks that actually recognized the song "Vincent" when it was performed by Clay Aiken on American Idol. :)
I love Clay, but his version was not as haunting as Josh's.

'The Prayer' is a beautiful song.
I would encourage all to have a listen.
It is a beautiful encouraging song to sing to a
Graduating Class.
It is a Duet, some of it is in a foreign language, it
is a wonderful inspiring song.
My Daughter just Graduated. She spoke at her Graduation.
The first words that she said were: Before I begin, It is only right that I give thanks to those deserving. First and Foremost my God, for without Him, I would not be standing here tonight. Secondly my family and friends, whose encouragement has always been there to help me in times of need, and also my Teachers. Their dedicaiton is beyond anything you could ever imagine and they are the reason we are all sitting here tonight.
Her whole speech had to given an okay by the Principal and the English Teacher.
Graduating Students NEED inspiration. It is a good time in their lives, but also it is a difficult time.

American Civil Liberties Unions Briefing Paper: Religion in Public Schools "A school cannot hold an assembly involving religion, even if students do not have to attend." (ACLU, 2). This briefing paper is inaccurate. Religious aspects can be part of school activites as long as the school doesn't promote one religion over another, or make the religious aspects mandatory.
One of the few good things Clinton did was stand up for students religious rights at school. He set federal guidelines that laid out student's religious rights (he didn't break any new ground, he just restated the rights the courts have long recognized.) I believe it contained the phrase "schools should not be religion free zones".
The ACLU briefing paper has been widely held as inaccurate. It was designed to confuse school administrators and have a chilling effect on them.
The ACLU does do some good stuff, but when it comes to some subjects (like religion in school) they lose all legal sense. They are against it, and will twist, lie, and cheat to stop it in any form. Whether it is contitutional or not.

Josh Groban is truly an amazing vocal artist. :o)

I guess that means that songs such as
America the Beautiful
God Bless America
My country 'Tis of Thee
The Battle Hymn of the Republic
can no longer be sung at school functions since they all reference God or Christ in the lyrics. You're right! And if Stuart Roth of the ACLJ had been sharp (like you), he would have brought this up.

An incorporated church CANNOT speak against government policy or candidates without the threat of losing their "tax exempt" status Absolutely wrong. In urban areas, almost every "church" uses the pulpit to endorse ONLY dimocRats and slam any GOP candidate. Their tax exempt status is NEVER questioned. The same with union endorsements and political ads. That is reality.

The word "God" doesn't appear in the lyrics at all.

Thank you. I thought I was missing it. The song sounds more New Age/occult than Christian, what with all that mention of stars:
http://www.blueletterbible.org/tsk_b/Amo/5/26.html http://www.blueletterbible.org/tsk_b/Act/7/42.html http://www.blueletterbible.org/tsk_b/Act/7/43.html ''The Prayer,'' a tune that's been recorded by Christian singers as well as mainstream artists like Celine Dion.
''The Prayer'' mentions God once and speaks of faith and the presence of a higher power. (higher power??)
Trust me, God would not be honored by this song. Continuing with Amos 5:
Amo 5:21 I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies....
Amo 5:23 Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.
I should thing the pagans would love it, though. Hopefully, they've gone so far to the left, that they will hit 'right' soon!

we're all entitled (at least I think so) to our opinions, the song is trite and her voice is too nasal (in my humble opinion)

I would ban a Celine Dion song for being a Celine Dion song.

hahaha I dunno what wacky school district this is, I go to choral concerts regularly for local public high school chorus and at least 80% of the songs sung are hymns or religious in content.
To: fight_truth_decay
My nephew just graduated from high school in Arlington, Texas. The two songs that were played at the graduation ceremony were "Battle Hymn of the Republic" (a very Christian and very moving song!!), and "Friends", a song by Christian musician Michael W. Smith. There was barely a dry eye in the audience after these songs were over.
THANK GOD there are some states/school districts which aren't living in fear of atheist ACLU Clymers!!!

Banning prayer from schools actually violates the 1st ... "or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"No, the people (especially minor children) at a school assembly are considered a "captive audience," which gives them more protection from unwanted speech, than, say, someone has when they choose to log on to FR.

But if it was some kind of Muslim mumbo-jumbo, they would bend over backwards to allow it.
