[history]
Utah-born Howard Jarvis was a fast-talking, blustery, rabble-rousing hater of politicians - except for Dwight Eisenhower and Richard Nixon - who published a newspaper, lost two brothers in World War II and ran a California aircraft parts company that employed 13,000 people.

Nothing has changed in the quarter century since Proposition 13's passage that vitiates the need for it. To the contrary. State government is STILL too big, too expensive, too powerful, and too hungry for taxpayers' money. We need a tough new limit on spending to complete the job Prop. 13 began.

LOL, the Democrat whores just hate that they can't mercilessly confiscate other people's money (Republicans' money) in order to buy the votes of their parasite constituencies.

People liked services but disliked paying for them, so the state's new cash-cow role wound up centralizing power in Sacramento as the Legislature tied knots in the purse strings. I guess not providing services that people didn't want badly enough to pay for never occured to anyone?

People are ideologically conservative and operationally liberal. The formula goes like this: We talk about shrinking government but as long as it can be done on the cheap we don't mind Big Government.

People are quite liberal ideologically, but turn conservative when they find out they are expected to pay. Similar to "not in my backyard".

I'd substitute the word "compassionate" for the word "liberal."
Many folks would hope others have their problems solved, mitigated, etc. This means the sick, the poor, the unortunate.
But they draw a line, when it comes to the big cost of same. Hence volunteerism, self-help advocacy, etc.
Bush leveraged this idea, with "compassionate conservatism." He gets voter prospects, from this fairly natural human concept of helping another of the same scepies, that is in need.
It is neither liberal or conservative.
A conservative gets some food from his cabinet, and gives it to the poor family.
A liberal also gets some food from the cabinet of the conservative, and gives it to the poor family.
