The Man We Lost [thoughts on Michael Kelly, includes a scathing Clinton putdown]

Paul Greenberg writes for Tribune Media Services, so I'll excerpt the relevant paragraphs about Clinton....

[snip]

I thought of Michael Kelly when I read a comment of Bill Clinton's at one of those terribly serious confabs on foreign policy in New York about a month ago. Addressing Marvin Kalb, the former newscaster, the former president fell into one of his I'm-so-misunderstood moods:

[snip usual Clinton whining]

Shocked and grateful. Sometimes all the self-pity gets mighty thick. Now our former president -- and former commander-in-chief! -- has been reduced to reciting anonymous praise of himself. Pathetic.

More and more, Bill Clinton comes to resemble a Harold Stassen who was elected. He is forever running for office, or at least for historical justification. He not only seems bent on swaying posterity, but talking until it arrives.

I liked the first part of this article. For me, Michael Kelly was the single most insightful and influential writer, especially after 9/11. I can't believe he's gone.

The second part of this article just uses Clinton's own words to mock Clinton himself. Clinton is just pathetic -- I'd be happy if I never had to read about him again.

Major burn:

More and more, Bill Clinton comes to resemble a Harold Stassen who was elected. He is forever running for office, or at least for historical justification. He not only seems bent on swaying posterity, but talking until it arrives.
