[history]
It is 17 months before the next national elections, and Republicans already smell victory in the air. In Capitol Hill watering holes and the halls of congressional office buildings, members and aides are whispering about the prospects of a major power shift in favor of the GOP come November 2004. Senate strategists are daring to predict a possible six- or even seven-seat pickup, which would strengthen the majority party's currently undependable 51 votes. More Republican senators would make significant changes in policy possible exponentially, and prevent legislative logjams, such as the stalling on President Bush's tax cuts. At this early date, however, it is prudent to keep in mind that everything would have to go right to bring about such a lopsided outcome.

Before they break out the champaign, I would advise them to get some more work done.
1. They need to defund the NEA. Never forget Corpus Christi.
2. They need to take our desire to leave the UN seriously.
3. They need to cut domestic pork and waste, at least some. I refuse to believe that there aren't some soft targets out there, such as bloated wages and benefits of some public 'servants'.
4. They need to convict beaurocrats for waste, fraud, and abuse. At least a few. They should all be held to the same standard that Traficant was held to. Fair is fair.
5. They need to proudly stand up for school choice, preferably a school tax credit option, which causes even less government meddling in education.
None of those issues will hurt them. All of those issues will help them. I would go further, such as the Clintons, but well, the Clintons still appear to have supernatural powers to defend them selves with their FBI files.

Before the champagne is uncorked, let's remember the euphoric predictions of a GOP landslide when Bush 41 was riding in the 80s and 90s in the polls after Gulf War I.
1. We cannot get complacent. Voters will not turn out if they think it is a landslide.
2. The Dems will have every Indian in South Dakota, every Russian illegal alien in Philly, every Mexican illegal in N.M. and California, every chad retard in Palm Beach, all of the Chicago dead, efc. vote early and often in this war for power. The voting irregularities of '00 are nothing compared to what the Dems will try in '04 and the media will promote such vote fraud in the interest of "fairness," "for the children," and every other poll-tested phrase to win public support of such fraud.
3. The U.S. Supremes may look very different in '04. Different members may make a Ginsberg, Breyer, or Souter the author of a very unpleasant opinion interpreting constitutional issues for a "living" document. Think this won't happen? Remember that both Earl Warren and "I'm hiding in the closet" Souter were both nominated to the Supremes by Republican presidents.
A large win is possible. Just don't be complacent or expect the Dimwits to fight a clean fight. To paraphrase Sean Connery from "The Untouchables," if they send one of ours to the hospital, we need to be prepared to send two of theirs to the political morgue.

I think it will be a good year for the GOP as well. I just wish we could find someone to take out Babs Mikulski here in Maryland.
Now THAT would be nice!

They are correct! Georgia,S. Carolina, North Carolina and Florida are Key. We have a really really good chance of picking these up. Considering the Fact that the Dems are going to have to defend Daschle and Reid, plus the afore mentioned....They won't be able to go after Brownback. If Toomey wins the Primary, massive support in a very important state for Bush would be necessary. Look for massive voter fraud in Philly and Pittsburg. Note the Eastern Time zone effect. If the dems ae crushed early on that will depress voting in 5 Pacific coast states(Ca,Or,Wa,HI,and Alaska) Each has a winnable race and could be a suprise if the vote is depressed.

5. They need to proudly stand up for school choice, preferably a school tax credit option, which causes even less government meddling in education. Unless it was stripped out at the last minute, offsets to "pay for" 48,000 private school tax credits are in this year's budget. This was one of the poison pills Bush snuck into the Bush/Kennedy Education Bill. Teddy is not happy about it.
Another poison pill was the funding of BAEO--an icepick into the heart of the Democrat inner city machine.

Perhaps the most intriguing rumor is that Louisiana Sen. John Breaux is increasingly dissatisfied as a moderate in an increasingly liberal party and might duck out of a reelection bid. My take on Breaux is that he will wait until after the Governor's race this Fall before making his decision. If we win that race, he will retire from the Senate and run for Guv (and win handily of course) in '07. If the RATs win, he will go ahead and run for reelection to the Senate in '04. Then, he will have the option of either serving out the new term, or resigning and letting the newly elected RAT Guv fill the seat with another RAT.
