Tame's activism update, part 2: "Sign here to fire Gray Davis!"

As many of you already know, the Gray Davis recall effort is going stronger than expected. Here is a report from my own personal experiences gathering petitions. First of all I had no idea how much so many democrats hate Gray Davis until I got involved in gathering signatures.
I mentioned in my last update that the reasons why both rebublicans and democrats want Davis out are wide and varied, but there seems to be a strong consensus across party lines that he has got to go.
This is a mixed blessing. It's great the leftycrats want Davis out, but many of their complaints against the governor seem to be premised on very disgusting socialistic assumptions about the role of the state--a nanny for every pet program and project.
Now back to the update. On Sunday I worked at WalMart in Bakersfield all day, and then yesterday I covered Home Depot, WalMart and Target.
Based on the comments I've continued to receive while gathering signatures, I can assure you there is an over abundance of passion against the Governor. So much so that we should in as little as a week or two we should have enough petitions to recall Davis. This goes far beyond the expectations of many.
So far it has been pretty smooth sailing for me. I haven't received much flak except for an incident at WalMart. An apparent leftist who was walking out to the parking lot grabbed his crotch and told me to "recall this!" I responded "No, thanks. I'm straight!"
One thing I say in order to get the attention of folks is "Sign here to fire Gray Davis!" People seem to get a kick out of that.
In the last three days I can probably count on one or two hands the people who made positive comments about Gray Davis. It seems that most the folks either signed the petition, or told me they already did. Others just walked by without comment.
Yesterday at WalMart I competed briefly with lady who was gathering petitions against the recall. She left shortly after I arrived.
Later in the day I dropped by the office of Kevin McDermott at Western Pacific Research (he's one of the guys heading up the petition drive in Bakersfield). I dropped off my petition signatures and voter registration forms.
He mentioned to me one possible scenario that is a bit scary (not to mention any legal battle Davis may wage). There is the possibility that Governor Davis will resign just before the Secretary of State certifies the recall. This would head off a new election for Governor by allowing the leftycrat Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante to become Governor.
The big question is "Will Governor Davis resignunder such circumstances???"
after leaving Kevin's office I headed over to Target where I got more petitions, and registered a few people to vote. I registered a soldier who just got back from Iraq, and obtained his signature on the recall petition.
This same evening I also registered a girl on her eighteenth birthday. Her family took pictures of her filling out the voter registration form. She then signed the petition.
Both the soldier and birthday girl registered as Republicans.
I'm sure I'm forgetting something but that should suffice for now. God Bless! tame.

You're in GOP country, my friend. How do the signups compare in the liberal coastal counties?

You're in GOP country, my friend. How do the signups compare in the liberal coastal counties?1) State wide we are WAY ahead of schedule.
2) The left-leaning democrats in Bakersfield are signing up faster than I would have thought.

Gray Davis won't resign. He has all of Clinton's huge ego and none of the likeability.

Gray Davis won't resign. He may come under unusually tremendous pressure from his party because it would help the leftists keep the Governorship.

He has no love for them and I don't see why he would help them out when they have done nothing to help him fend off that recall drive.

This recall effort, although admirable, is flawed. There is no doubt in my mind that Gray Davis has done nothing but harm the state, but I have issues with this.
Gray Davis was legally re-elected to office. An after-the-fact collective "oops" by those who either didn't vote for him, or did not vote at all, is a little questionable in my book.
Maybe larger voter turnout would have been a better solution at the time of election, thus preventing his re-election.

Recall is a legal and time-honored tradition in California. Davis lied big time to the voters to eek out a narrow re-election victory where Simon was demonized like Goldwater in 1964. By 1966, a large share of LBJ voters were ready to switch, but nationwide there is no recall machinery on the legal books.
In California there is. Even if another RAT replaces Davis, for once, re-election will not be a free pass to four more years of lies and deception. For once, a lowlife will be held accountable in a non-election year. Bring on the recall and God bless the author for helping them do so. Doofus Davis has got to go!

Great work. I'm starting to see petition people everywhere. How about the Orange County swapmeet on Sunday?

Thank you for what you're doing. I've signed up all my neighbors and friends, probably sent in about six petitions and have one full one in my purse that needs to be mailed in. But I can't compare to your effort. Way to go!

Gray Davis was legally re-elected to office.1) He is being legal recalled according to California law.
2) He did not receive a majority of the votes cast in the election (49%).
3) The recall is the greater good in accord with God's law, observed by myself and others. Davis has abrogated his right to be governor by his supprt of anti-biblical/anti-moral statutes and regulations (abortion/gay "rights", violation of religious liberty, etc.)
"An after-the-fact collective "oops" by those who either didn't vote for him, or did not vote at all, is a little questionable in my book."
There is no "oops" coming from the millions of voters who voted for someone else---millions more voted against Davis than are signing petitions.
