Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger Confirms He "would love to be governor" of California Is "very liberal" on social issues HOLLYWOOD, June 9, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Action films star Arnold Schwarzenegger has been confirmed to be seriously considering running as the Republican candidate for the California governorship as early as this fall. This would be in response to what is shaping up to be a successful recall campaign to replace current Democrat governor Gray Davis who was elected only last November.
Today's Newmax Left Coast Report quotes Schwarzenegger saying, "I would love to be governor ... if the state needs me and if there's no one I think is better, then I will run." The violent and often crude movies action hero is reported to be having discussions with his political advisor, political insiders and potential supporters. A final decision on whether to run will be made after the July 2 opening of his new film, "Terminator 3".
For social conservative Republicans, Schwarzenegger is definitely no Ronald Reagan. There are serious reservations about supporting the actor whose views on critical moral issues mirror those of the morally bankrupt Hollywood establishment.
A Nov. 18, 2002 Associated Press article reported that Schwarzenegger describes himself as "very liberal" on social issues and that "He favors legalized abortion and gay adoption". England's May 30 Guardian newspaper also quotes commentator Bill Bradley stating, "He's pro-choice, pro-gay rights He's a member of the Kennedy family and some of that, I think, has rubbed off on him". The actor is married to Kennedy cousin and Democrat Maria Shriver.
Human Events on line on April 23, 2001 reported that Schwarzenegger was outspoken against the Clinton impeachment. Of that he stated, "That was another thing I will never forgive the Republican Party for".
The 55 year old former Austrian and Mr. Universe, Mr. International and Mr. Olympia title holder has been married since 1986, is the father of four children and is reported to be a genuinely devoted family man.
I doubt Arnold will listen to his wife and I also doubt he could win - too much of a wild past.
Thank God, we don't need antoher liberal Republican in office.
NOPE. He just plays one in movies. Arnold Swartznekennedy is pro gun control.
"He favors... more gun control measures, legaized abortion and gay adoption. His wife, Kennedy cousin Maria Shriver, is a registered Democrat. Dick Mountjoy, president of the conservative California Republican Assembly, said Republican activists would not automatically embrace Schwarzenegger."

"South told me, Schwarzenegger 'defined himself as a social liberal, pro-choice and pro-gun control, plus he's married to a Kennedy." What a crime. But South sputtered on, adding that Schwarzenegger also is pro-gay rights, pro-immigrantion and supported Clinton during the impeachment farce."

"Schwarzenegger said 'It's an image thing...the movies, with the gun in my hand. I don't run around every day with a gun in my hand. So I want kids to understand the difference: one is make-believe, like we do in movies. But in reality, I'm for gun control. I'm a peace-loving guy. I hate violence amongst the young kids. I always tell them, don't use guns, get away from the violence. Solve problems with dialogue. That's the ultimate power your vocabulary. How you communicate. Study vocabulary...Because if you hit someone in the face, that maybe hurts then and there. But to put someone away with dialogue it's painful for a long time...one thing I would say is: the biggest mistake that young people make today is not to vote.'"

He does CLAIM to be a fiscal conservative, but one quick look at what Arnie's been doing lately to promote higher taxes for some socialist education scheme quickly shows his fiscal claims are just rhetoric.
Evidentially some "conservatives" would like to replace an UNPOPULAR Democrat leader who supports left-wing garbage with a POPULAR "Republican" leader who will be the mouthpiece for the same agenda. Brillant move.
Kinda like how Illinosians "replaced" Geroge Ryan with Rod Blagojevich. The new guys looks like a popular pretty boy, but it's same ol' agenda going through past the governor's desk. Hmmm...
And what "single issue" would that be? I object to ALL of these positions he has:
Pro-abortion
Pro-gun "control"
Pro-gay marriage
Pro-gay adoption
Pro-Illegal Immigration
Pro Higher Taxes
Pro Education Buearucrats
Pro Clinton
Pro Kennedy
Etc.,
Etc.,
Etc.
This is why California is a disaster area. California Republicans have their head up their ass. (I know. I am a California Republican.)
So far, it's pretty certain that Darrell Issa will run, since he's contributed so much money to the recall effort. I guess he may be pro-life, but I really have no idea. He has money, probably knows important campaign donors, and seems willing to fight in a dirty election.
I would prefer State Senator Tom McClintock, who is conservative fiscally and socially. I'm pretty sure he is pro-life and supports family values. He's tough and ethical, but he had a very small budget in the last election when he ran for Controller.
I had the impression Bill Simon was pro-life, but he was almost apologetic about that; the democrats defined him. He probably shouldn't run in this election, since it'll make the recall effort look partisan (sore loser and all that).
Besides Schwarzenegger, the other GOP candidates I've heard about (Issa and possibly McClintock) are conservative. Who else may run from the GOP or a conservative party?
Peter Camejo of the Green party will run; he is a socialist. Dianne Feinstein, Cruz Bustamante, Bill Lockyer, Kevin Shelley, and Phil Angelides are all leftwing liberals, although none has announced an intention to run. No need to guess their opinion of abortion issues.
To correct the headline: Pro-abortion Schwarzenegger...
To say that one is "pro-choice" is to fail complete a sentence, as it does not indicate what one is "pro-choice" with regard to.
Is one "pro-choice" with regard to heroin use? Bank robbery? Pedophilia? Anthrax distribution amongst the infidels?
Please call the "choice" what it is: pro-abortion.
