Very sad. Even if he was a liberal, he was at least an old school liberal and a gentleman. My daughter and I met him once during a book signing at Marshall-Fields in Chicago. Reporters from the Chicago Tribune took photos of Mr. Brinkley and my little girl together as he was signing our book.

I was a bit disapointed by his memoir, but he was never one to betray confidences and had that Victorian virtue called discretion.
