WASHINGTON - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., announced Friday she is co-sponsoring a bill to give domestic partners of federal employees, whether of the same or opposite sex, the same benefits as federal employees' legal spouses - including health insurance. "Longtime domestic partners should enjoy the same benefits afforded other couples, whether it's health insurance, inheritance, property rights or taxes. These are Americans who have made a commitment to one another, and they should not be denied benefits," Clinton said.
The original sponsors are Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., and Sen. Mark Dayton, D-Minn.
"At a time when there is a substantial salary gap between government and private-sector employees with similar jobs, it simply makes sense to add a low-cost benefit to help attract more qualified people to the federal government, and make it easier to retain them once they start work," Frank said.
"It is fundamentally wrong that domestic partners of gay, lesbian, and heterosexual federal employees are excluded from receiving the benefits available to opposite-sex spouses," Dayton said.
Clinton also is co-sponsoring the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, which would make it illegal to deny any citizen an education, a job, a home, immigration or any other opportunity because of his or her sexual orientation.

The book money is not enough, she also needs these benefits? Does she get a set of benefits for each partner?

Dear TVC Supporter:
On June 12th the California Assembly passed a Father's Day resolution authored by a lesbian Assembly member, Christine Kehoe of San Diego. The resolution praised fatherhood and then listed various kinds of fathers, including "families headed by two fathers." It was passed by a vote of 42-24. All 24 Republicans voted against the resolution
TVC sent out a press release protesting this insult to fatherhood on June 13. In it, Rev. Sheldon noted: "I am appalled that these Democrats in the legislature claim their actions are not part of a concerted homosexual agenda." And, TVC's California lobbyist and aide to Rev. Sheldon observed: "This legislature may say they are for families, but this action speaks differently. This resolution is an insult to the natural distinction of fatherhood."
We are urging TVC supporters to contact local media to protest this resolution. We have created a letter that can be sent through CapWiz here:

This could be fraud city, unless something is filed that gives the partner property rights ala a spouse in the event of a "divorce." Offering up this alternative to hetero couples really doesn't make any sense.

The moral issues here aside, look at how open to fraud this would be. And who would be paying for all these bogus benefits? That's right...you and me.

"At a time when there is a substantial salary gap between government and private-sector employees with similar jobs......... A lousy stinkin' lie. Fed employees are doing great and never get fired or laid off. Count in their bennies and they do much better than the private sector. Ever wonder why a well paid lawyer agitates, contributes and bribes to get a Federal judgeship? The pension, less stress and great work hours.

A friend of mine works for a company that offers domestic partnerships. Her company defines domestic partner as any adult who shares the same address as the employee. Thus it could mean anybody.

What's a 'long time domestic partner'? A bigamist's second wife? Bubba's mistresses? The maid? I men, it doesn't specify the type of domestic partnership...
And even if she cleans up the language, I, for one, do not want to be forced to pay for gay governent emplyees partners' AIDS treatments and hemmoroid operations.
I read about a gay advocacy group recently that CUT INSURENCE BENEFITS TO IT'S OWN WORKERS, because the cost of the insurance was just too high. Wish I could remember the name of the group. It's a big one.
