Stop The Liberal Assault On The Boy Scouts

ISSUE: For quite a while now, we've alerted our members to the constant barrage of attacks on one of the most cherished institutions in America: the Boy Scouts.

Liberals would like nothing more than to destroy this bastion of young American manhood. They tried to do just that by demanding that the Supreme Court force them to accept homosexuals as Scouts and Scoutmasters. They failed at the national level -- but now they've scored another major victory locally, unless conservatives stand up and turn back the tide.

As noted by TownHall.com guest columnist Hans Zeiger (an 18-year-old Eagle Scout himself), "Philadelphia's Cradle of Liberty Boy Scout Council self-destructed last week. Its executive board voted unanimously to include 'sexual orientation' in its nondiscrimination code. The outrageous move came after years of intense pressure from radical homosexual and atheist rights groups in the area and nationwide."

  The Philadelphia Council is the third largest local council in the country, serving 87,000 boys and men. It joins a growing list of councils that have eagerly thumbed their noses at the Boy Scouts of America and its associated moral codes. Last year, San Francisco and Boston became the first branches to reject the concept of "moral straightness."

As Zeiger notes, "When it comes to a Scout troop, sexual orientation is an issue that goes beyond differences in skin color or economic status. It affects such matters as tenting arrangements and the development of pre-teenage masculinity in a close-knit group of boys and men. But the BSA's position against homosexuality is not just an issue of moral principle in an effort to affirm the Scout Oath and Law, it is a serious safety effort to prevent cases of sexual abuse and harassment."

  To the vast majority of Americans who understand the importance of Scouting in every community across the nation, preserving the traditional moral code of Scouting is a no-brainer. It is time for families in Philadelphia to show that they oppose the leadership of their local council by leaving the organization.

  The pressures from the radical Left must be dealt with. As the Left has opened fire on the Scouts, the reaction of Americans has been interesting. Some say that the Scouts don't need to be defended because they are strong enough. Many would argue that ignoring the opposition is the best thing for the Scouts. Perhaps that would be true in a small-scale conflict, but those who lead the drive against the Scouts have proven their capacity for a dangerous perversion of morality when, in a hundred other scenarios, they've struck deepest when decent Americans chose not to fight back. They didn't fight back because they weren't looking in the first place.

Well, THIS time we're looking. Now let's do something about it.

ACTION ITEM: The Boy Scouts are not an intolerant, homophobic, racist bunch. In fact, the Boy Scouts have always taught tolerance and have been at the forefront of celebrating diversity. Since 1911, the BSA has reached out to disabled youth, racial and ethnic minorities, Native Americans, and inner city children. And Scouting has also taught the difference between right and wrong, between honor and indecency, between justice and perversity. No wonder the radical leftists hate the Scouts so much.

NOW is the time to fight back and defend the Boy Scouts from further damage. The Boy Scouts have the right to establish standards for membership, and those standards have been highly respected for over 90 years. Citizens across America have an obligation to see to it that the Boy Scout Oath and Law are upheld for another 90 years.

It is important to note that the boy scouts in the south and in Utah were segregated by color for a long time.

That being said, they at least offered programs when other national organizations didnt.

The best young men I have ever employed were former Eagle Scouts.

there are Catholic friendly boy scout troops here in Salt Lake, which my kids are happy in, and there are some non-denominational type scout troops which I understand are supported by the VFW.

this isn't said to belittle the LDS, they are family oriented and naturals when it comes to scouting.

I guess boys will be boys, and there will be rivalry.

Never forget Boy Scouts, persecution is a hallmark for standing up for righteousness. If they weren't attacking you, you would not be doing good and effective work.

The Boy Scouts are under attack for all the same reasons that every other traditional American value and institution is under attack. Of course, the specifics will vary from one instance to another.

The problem here is that the conservative people have not volunteered to be on the Scout Council. If they did this never would have happened. As with all organization, only the power hungry people aspire to Council. The way to over turn this is for people of honor to take back positions of authority and reverse this decision.

You are so right! As a Scoutmaster, I can tell you that this battle is far from over, and we must not let down our guards for a second. Liberals always attack what is good, moral and right--always--look at their voting records and the record of the ACLU, what more proof does one need? Only the morally bankrupt would be a Democrap or RINO, the fight continues...

There was a hilarious South Park episode about Gay Boy Scouts. I saw it the other night in a pub. Everybody was howling. Never saw that cartoon show before. Amazing because it ripped apart the Liberal Agenda.

For the record, I was in the Boy Scouts. I made Life Scout with 23 merit badges. I only needed one more to make Eagle. Also was in Order of the Arrow. At that time, only the top 1% were ever tapped to make that 'Secret Society' within the Scouts. I turned 16 and was involved in high school sports and felt it was time to move on.
