"I'm just now learning a lot of the details, and I'm really shocked," Mrs. Cano, now 49, told WORLD. "Abortion is against every belief I have. I've never been for abortion. I never went for an abortion. I was not the person they say I was. This case was based on lies."
Very true. It's so easy to talk yourself into believing that there's no baby there, especially in the early months of pregnancy. Many girls and women are simply in denial. Real love for that child only really kicks in when he starts to kick. Before that, unless a woman has had ultrasound, it's a matter of faith. So anyone for whom the pregnancy is inconvenient or disastrous can easily talk herself into believing that it's only tissue.
This is where the medical community, which includes abortion clinics, has a moral and legal responsibility to inform the abortion patient that she is about to end a human life. Maybe there should be a class action suit on behalf of women who have had abortions without informed consent. Forget reversing Roe v. Wade. Just put the abortionists out of business.
This is an important goal. Ultimately, it won't matter if abortion is legal if no one can either obtain an abortion or wants an abortion.
The abortion debate is really about changing the hearts and minds of the American people. That sounds cliche, but it's true. If no one could fathom killing their child, there would be no abortion.
This is why the pro-abort industry does not support ANY restrictions on abortion, including so-called "common sense" restrictions like parental consent (implies that parents have rights over their children); informed consent (can't show women what they're really "choosing" to do); waiting periods (God-forbid they change their mind, we'll be out $350!); or anaesthesia for the baby who is about to be killed (recognizes then that the baby feels pain and if the baby feels pain then it's not a lump of tissue. Never mind that the baby DOES feel pain, let's just pretend it doesn't. Like my husband says, you can vote to suspend the law of gravity, but we still won't fly around the room.)
We have our work cut out for us, but I feel the tide changing. Though the pro-aborts are louder and more vocal than ever before, we are increasing our numbers of pro-life supporters. More people are realizing that abortion is evil, either through their religious beliefs or basic common sense. Either way, I welcome them into the fold. We need to work together to stop this evil act.
