We could have had Mexico for a state a long time ago and we chose not to because it was obvious that their 18th century feudal system, lack of education, and lack of respect for the rule of law would destroy us.

This one was for real: "I support the troops but oppose the war." "I support the troops but hate the CIC". "I support the troops when they shoot their officers." Ugh. I can hardly read immigration threads, I get too angry. How are we going to get power to someone who will come to our rescue? One way to approach this is to cut welfare benefits. Cut, Cut, Cut!!! I think in Texas the situation is not quite as dire because we don't have as many big state programs as some other states, though we have too many.

I feel your frustration, john.....I grew up in So. Cal....I saw the massive flood of illegals across the borders...I saw women RUNNING across the borders as they were in labor b/c as good Christian people we would be compassionate and take them to the hospital to have their babies, who would become naturalized American Citizens, which meant California had to pay to BUS them up from Tiajuana for school and provide them welfare benefits. We should bill Mexico back for the millions we've spent or take it out of there aide packages. GRRRRRRRRRRRR

It makes me nuts...I'm all for the "great wall of the southern US. And major tracking of people here on passports and visas.

As much as I despise illegal immigration, I have to agree with Neal Boortz' assessment of the situation. There are an awful lot of U.S. citizens who would hate to see the price of a new home if it weren't for cheap Mexican labor.
