A UN human rights official said that Israel's "targeted killings" of Palestinian militants could be considered war crimes, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reports. The opinion by Antonio Cassesse of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, is being referred to in a petition by Israeli human rights groups to temporarily ban the policy.
According to the petition, Israel has killed more than 230 Palestinians in "targeted killings" since September 2000. Cassesse's opinion states that terrorists, who are not part of a formal army, must be treated as civilians unless they are caught in the act of perpetrating a terrorist attack.

Cassesse's opinion states that terrorists, who are not part of a formal army, must be treated as civilians unless they are caught in the act of perpetrating a terrorist attack. What an Idiot. The Anti-Semitic, Anti-Israel, anti-American organization opens its mouth. Its funny, they didn't raise the fact these terrorists are committing war crimes. But that is different, cause they are killing Jews.

Targeted killing is a war crime?
OK, we'll go with the "carpet bombing" instead.

I tell you what, the Israeli policy sure has Hamas running scared. The louder they shriek about something, the more impact it is having on them.

Someone remind me once again: why is the United States still a member of the U.N.? And why do many on the left think that the U.N. has moral authority, if nothing else?

They better come after us first. We have done targeted killings.I think they have complained about it on second thought. Maybe they'll cut foreign aid to us.

A UN human rights official said that Israel's "targeted killings" of Palestinian militants could be considered war crimes Yeah, sure. I guess the Israelis should stop the targeted killings if terrorists and just respond in kind, by bombing Pali busses and restaurants and shooting their kids in cars. Just target Pali civilians. That's fairer. The score is more even that way, too, because right now the Palis have the home court advantage.

The U.N. has raised it in the past:
13. The Palestinian Authority is obligated under international customary law to respect human rights, including to refrain from carrying out attacks against civilians, and is required to prevent groups within its territory from engaging in such attacks. Thus, the Palestinian Authority has the responsibility to protect Israeli civilians from attacks, including suicide bombings, emanating from areas under its security control. Those Palestinian groups that have carried out attacks against civilians have also violated the basic international legal principle of the inviolability of civilian life and property. Acts of terror that take life violate the right to life set forth in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. In addition, those groups, and other armed personnel, are prohibited under international humanitarian law from establishing military bases in densely populated civilian areas. (from http://www.un.org/peace/jenin/index.html)

Let the UN try. It could be quite a spectacle watching the pompous beaurocrats attempt to enter Isreal to take the leadership into custody.
BTW My money would be on the IDF.

So if Israel covertly funded a terrorist organization to execute these killings on their behalf, everything would be cool, right?
Or better yet, Israel could just start calling itself an Islamic state, thus exempting it from all human rights and war crime liability.
