"Saving schools may be Jeb's 'devious plan'"
I'm glad Thomas used the term 'devious plan' in a more positive way than Governor Bush's opposition did in the election! He really seems to be a 'fair and balanced' reporter.
The pictures illustrate the celebration of a job well done. These are people who CARE!
Thanks for posting.

Jeb is to be commended for caring (unlike liberals) whether little black children can read or write. It is tragic, though, that his better policies may end up saving government schooling.

Thanks so much for this post summer! I can't believe Mike Thomas wrote this story.
I'm excited about the results my son achieved too! He received a Certificate of Achievement in recognition for; Writing - Notable Performance and Science - Outstanding Performance.
On the Science portion of the test (not to brag too much, cough, cough) he achieved 431 out of 500. The state average looks to be about 295.
In the Writing portion he achieved a 5.5 out of 6.0!
I'm just so proud of him!! As soon as my e-mail is fixed I'm going to write to Jeb and thank him for the FCAT. :-)

God bless Jeb!! He shows how to really care about children!!
Unlike the Teachers Union " Me First " agenda. Go Jeb Go.

Good article by Mike Thomas. I notice that the most schools with a repeat 'F' rating are in Miami/Dade county.
Best quote from Thomas: "But I'd never seen so many people worried about whether poor black children could read and write until Jeb Bush took office."

Interesting correlation between the high number of failing schools and the RAT-run counties down in the states' rectal region (Gore country). Conversely, take our Republican-ran county here in the panhandle. We voted for GW by a margin of nearly 4-1 in 2000 and 95% of our schools are 'A' schools. We also enjoy low taxes, low unemployment, low crime, etc. as opposed to those sweltering trash bins of diversified corruption and decadence--Broward and Dade.

the very real achievements of this GOP governor -- and these FL students. I admire your humility in neglectig to mention the role that you and the other dedicated teachers had to play in this success, but you really deserve at least some of the credit. Thanks for a job well done!
I meant to write you back on the other thread as well, but I was so tired! :)
I understand completely; no offense taken. Your tireless efforts to keep us informed on educational issues here on FR is greatly appreciated.

This was the guy who interviewed Jeb on the cruise, right? Great article. I do worry, though, because some of our testing (our old testing program was called MSPAP and was thrown out because people downtown weren't improving lol) caused our teachers to go crazy, absolutely crazy. We were tested 3rd, 5th, and 8th, and I remember they got so tense, we had classes that were basically test prep classes, and I got tension headaches. I agree that accountability is needed, and if you need to bring up desperately failing schools, you need testing. But I hope he doesn't take it too far.
