Are you sure? I was under the impression that he made the announcement that afternoon (some ballgames had the announcement), which, considering the time zones, wasn't long after it happened. I could be wrong. I'm dead certain. The announcements at the "ball games" was primarily at, I believe, the New York Giants football game and it was made by the regular PA announcer.
