David Hunt on Troop Morale (FNC alert)

Posted on 06/20/2003 5:28:42 PM PDT by bluebunny

I was listening to David Hunt on Fox news about our soldiers getting picked off. I totally agree with him. He said there is no reason for those soldiers to be sitting on street corners in tanks. He believes to secure central and northern Iraq is more of a special ops duty than heavy-armored divisions. I think we should not have our troops being sitting ducks in the streets. Thoughts?

This American found the solution to the problem with our soldiers being sitting ducks for the Iraqi sniper terrorists. Couldn't something similar be done?

General "Black Jack" Pershing was born September 13th, 1860 near Laclede, MS. He died July 15th, 1948 in Washington, D.C.

Highlights of his life include:

*1891 Professor of Military Science and Tactics University of Nebraska.
*1898 Serves in the Spanish-American War.
*1901 Awarded rank of Captain.
*1906 Promoted to rank of Brigadier General.
*1909 Military Governor of Moro Province, Philippines.
*1916 Made Major General.
*1919 Promoted to General of the Armies.
*1920 Comes to many defense industries to thank them for their help in WWI.
*1921 Appointed Chief of Staff.
*1924 Retires from active duty. Educated at West Point.

THE KEY:

Just before World War I, there were a number of terrorist attacks on the United States forces in the Philippines by Muslim extremists. So General Pershing captured 50 terrorists and had them tied to posts for execution.

He then had his men bring in two pigs and slaughter them in front of the, now horrified, terrorists. Muslims detest pork because they believe pigs are filthy animals. Some of them simply refuse to eat it, while others won't even touch pigs at all, nor any of their by-products. To them, eating or touching a pig, its meat, its blood, etc., is to be instantly barred from paradise (and those virgins) and doomed to hell.

The soldiers then soaked their bullets in the pig's blood, and proceeded to execute 49 of the terrorists by firing squad. The soldiers then dug a big hole, dumped in the terrorist's bodies and covered them in pig blood, entrails, etc.

They let the 50th man go. And for the next forty-two years, there was not a single Muslim extremist attack anywhere in the world.

Maybe it is time for this segment of history to repeat itself, perhaps in Iraq? The question is where do we find another Black Jack Pershing?

It's not a special operations or conventional army duty. It is a law enforcement duty. Unfortunately, simple minds often come up with simple solutions and we get "nation building".

As for the Black Jack Pershing story, one man's terrorist is often another man's patriot and nationalist.

I don't think that would play well on the evening news. World wide political correctness is to entrenched in the minds of the masses.

Our men and women are sitting ducks over there in Iraq and I don't like them getting picked off one by one. Let the troops use tear gas, rubber bullets and riot tactics immediately to control the unruly mob. Let our troops protect themselves better.

My opinion is the same as it was in Afghanistan. We go in, we overthrow the regime, then we get the heck out with a warning that we can AND WILL be back in 5 minutes if necessary to depose another regime that is insane. Then the Iraqis can form any government they want their own way but if they let the crazies take over we will come back for another thunder run.

Black Jack handled those disabled veterans and their wives and children quite well
Of course they were the same men he commanded during WW1

Careful, knowing the truth about the "Bonus Army" will get you flamed. (A very sad event in American history).

we told the Iraqis we were at war with Saddam Hussein and his cronies not
the Iraqi people or the nation of Iraq
And if the nation of Iraq says go home and we stay...there are those who are not gonna like it
They will be supported by Saudi Arabia Iran Syria Libya Egypt Sudan France Canada Germany Russia China Cuba and dang near half of America
Infidels cannot occupy an Islamic nation without the muslims fighting back and the fight joined by other muslims..
We need nice attenuated muslims to plant at the heads of all their institutions...and all the mullahs/imams have to be gotten rid of but we aint gonna do that...
The best thing to do is to take half their oil until they have paid off their terror debt and then cut them loose

I highly doubt Pershing did this. I think this is an urban myth. The same story has been told about the Russians in Afghanistan. And the Moro wars in the Phillipines lasted on and off for over a decade from 1904 to about 1912. And it can hardly be called a war at all as we loss less than 100 men in all that time. It would be called a low intensity conflict nowadays. The Moro "wars" should not be confused with the much fiercer Phillipines war fought between 1899 and 1903 which cost 4500 American lives. This was more than double the amount we lost fighting the Spanish.

Macarthur was a second Lt during the Phillipines War and saw the tail end of it.

It hasn't been completely determined that it is real or legend.

OH- Macarthur was the commander of that operation as well. Communist and "progressives" say that women and children were burned alive in their tents. History proves something else of course.

Still urban myth like. I know the history of the Moro "wars" and no such incident is ever mentioned.

It is almost disappointing to learn that a tale we all believe is a myth. Kind of deflating. I guess we are all gullible, at times.

Almost certainly a myth as your post makes clear.

For what? Benefits they were promised years from their march that the government couldn't afford at that time? Macarthur did his duty as did every soldier in that operation. A mob of disgruntled veterans is dangerous. Ask Germany.
