I have never understood a medical program for the
elderly since they are the wealthiest in our country.

I'll second that. Check out the casinos, look at all the greedy geezers stuffing quarters into the slots!! They are the same ones that want you to pay for their meds. About 15 years ago, for about an 18 month period, Medicare covered prescription drugs. The law was repealed because the geezers had to pay for their own plan. They wouldn't stand for it!!!!

Yup, they're also all over the place demanding their senior citizen discount or their free coffee at McDonald's or what have you.

Brokaw may think they are the "greatest generation," but in many ways they are the most selfish and the greediest generation.

Part of it is undoubtedly traceable to the nanny-state vision FDR put forth, which saved many of our present-day geezers from permanent poverty.

But let us face facts. These penny-pinchers are demanding their discount when young families are struggling to raise families, or young kids are trying to pay for college.

I'm not a fan of another give away to these people, but if it must be done (as the polls seem to show), then at least it will be the Republicans writing the bill so the damage can be minimized.
