GREAT ARTICLE... Now, I happen to have been doing some research myself for a project on the identical subject, and I have come up with the "watershed" year as being 1968. This is the first year that one actually had a significant percentage of "counterculture" graduates from our colleges and universities. This is also the beginning of the peak of the insanity which almost burned this Republic to the ground with the rioting, looting and burning of urban centers.

I consider myself rather fortunate, as I was able to learn all this somewhat after the fact, being occupied in this Countries' employment attempting to stop the spread of Communism in SE Asia at the time. When I returned back "to the world" I found, literally, what I witnessed unbelievable.

I also firmly believe that one of the largest problems at that time was the still limited informational dissemination network, since there were, in most places, no cable, there was no Internet, no personally owned computers, and most of the public got their news from maybe 1 hour tops of TV news a day, plus whatever liberal rag they happened to purchase on their way to and from work, or have delivered. There is no real need to explain just how biased that was, yet the fact of that bias was not even suspected, as most papers and newscasters were considered respected and honored public features.

When the insanity happened, the rioting, looting, and burning, the public "circled the wagons" and let the (Demoncrat regime) take away their right to self defence (The second original sin, GCA 68, the first original sin being the NFA '32, which was preceded, predictably as it now turns out by the Peoples Republic of Noo Yawk passing the "Sullivan Act" even earlier, being probably the first group to thumb their collective noses at the Constitution). In addition, the problems on the Campuses of Colleges and Universities were interpreted wrong, based on the nostalgic thoughts of those who had been there before, as just "Kid Pranks", and not for the subversive, Communist backed, Demoncratic supported actions which they really were.

From that point on, those who would overthrow the educational system practiced exactly what everyone who had done so previously, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Hirohito, Mao, Castro, Guevara, and all the rest of the unnoticed tinpot dictators did, practice incremental restraint, and change the minds of one child at a time, until the small ripple became a tsunami.

Ladies and Gentlemen, "1984" was simply published too soon. It's here, and the NEA and it's Communist/Leftist minions are its spearhead. It has become virtually impossible to fight this debacle, because the selfsame NEA and their supporters are actively removing every word your child could learn to debate what is happening. We are considering perversion a natural act, and crime a product of an inanimate object instead of the insane action of individuals who have not been permitted to grow and mature normally. We have permitted and supported Zero Tolerance, until we have the equivalent of wild animals pacing endlessly inside cages, driven mad with boredom, until the point of insanity is passed with the usual carnage, thus generating even more attacks on personal freeedom.

I wish I had an answer, except homeschool, because I personally feel that socialzation is an important part of the maturing process, and denying children experience in dealing with their peers is not a healthy developmental mode. That being said, however, since what is out there today is not "normal" by any stretch of the imagination, homeschool becomes just about the only choice which is both morally and practically viable, at least until what passes for schools, students, and the Leftist NEA either destroy themselves, make themselves obsolete, or people finally see the light and vote the proper officials into office who will actually stand behind the reforms so often uttered, so little practiced.

If anyone has any comments, I definitely would like to hear about them, because, as I am sure most of you feel, I don't have an answer to this problem. I may have a cause, a time, and a "why", but sure not an answer..

Greg, thanks for the post. How about private schools, like Catholic schools or parochial schools? Do they suffer from the same (socialist, one world etc.) problem?

Yes...from what I've heard from a friend who sent her daughter to a Catholic high school.

Worse!!! Now, although the dicipline is marginally better, Catholic schools are SERIOUSLY infected with one world propaganda. FYI I'm 56, was raised and educated Catholic, until a rather unfortunate incident in 10th grade HS involving mass quantities of alcohol, a motorcycle, and a glass door. I did however manage to redeem myself, graduate from the public schools, which fortunately, at that time, still taught real subjects and real history, stumped for Goldwater in '64, was a member of the Young Americans for Freedom, served my country in the military and finished my higher education still untainted by leftist thought ;-)

The big problem with Catholic/Parochial schools is twofold, first, the big "peace and love thing" and secondly, the ongoing coverup of widespread perversion/Pedophilia which has been routinely paid off, supressed, or just "transferred out".. What is amazing is that in all my years of school, and yes, I am still Catholic, I never actively was exposed to any perverted actions by any Priest. I was just as amazed as everyone else when the allegations began to surface, and even more amazed when I found out a Priest who I thought was a good guy and a good friend was homosexual and a pedophile (he later died of AIDS, which, while not a nice statement to make, proves there still is some justice left in this world).

I think, just possibly, there are private schools which still teach good, old conservative values, but I will be darned if I know where. The dumbing process (I believe there was a post here on FR, which is where I got the part about "removing all the words your children could use for intelligent debate" came from, where CA (where else) the use of words thought to be "offensive" had to be removed from textbooks. There have been similar posts, which as of yet I have not searched for, concerning the same practice nationwide. Given today's climate of widespread Pabulum (with a Ritalin chaser) feeding, and the quaking hordes of handwringers "despising" the "chilruns" exposure to anything useful ( they seem to believe, after all that life is all soft, rounded edges of foam rubber, with airbags, oops, airbags cant be used with kids, I forgot..eerrr child seats facing away from whatever might be offensive (to the parents) while anything perverted or sexual is not only tolerated, but promoted, I simply don't see an answer without some widespread "regime changes". This means the damn NEA, the Communists/Leftists/Demoncrats who support them, the politicians who have established the "cult of zero tolerance" to the point of unadulterated idiocy, but on the level of the "King's New Clothes" (One is not permitted to discuss the abysmal failures and screwups), and especially the apathetic parent/parent(s) optional. Mrs gwmoore happens to work for the justice system, in the District Court, where they actually have such inane waste of Judicial time as "Smoking Court" "Fighting Court", and "Zero Tolerance Court". Even more unbelievable is that often the PARENTS are punished, given several days jail time, while the damn kids are released to continue to do whatever it is they do nowadays (I prefer not to think too much on this, it can be depressing).. Incidentally, if you do have any input, I would appreciate it.

The "project" I mentioned is actually research on a book about the very same thing discussed in this article, albeit probably not as scholarly ( I am an electrical/aeronautical engineer by degree, and we tend to think on the opposite sides of our brains from academics LOL..we are actually supposed to produce things and invent innovations [evil grin]. The working title, at this point is "A Decent into Hell", and will cover the demise of intelligent, reality based education from 1962 to the present. It is a LOT of research, but since I am retired disabled, I do have the time to work on it LOL.....

To sum up, Catholic/Parochial school is better than public at this point in time, if for no other reason than discipline without too much idiocy, but like all of today's education is permeated with leftist thought/propaganda. Frankly, my own preference would be some center course, where one didn't have the "peace love, and one world, love the UN BS" but without being too straitlaced. One of the biggest problems I see happening, and the cause(MY IMHO) of what is percieved to be the rise in school violence has been the supression of the natural growing process. Kids act out all the time, and in my day, playing "cops and robbers, or "cowboys and indians" was a normal, everyday, occurrence, just as playing baseball and generally raising as much hell as one could before being severely chastised by one's parents (LOL) said chastising often causing reminders every time one sat down for several days.... I don't see a return to this anytime soon, unless something either miraculous happens, or people suddenly suffer simultaneous attacks of sanity.

I hope I helped, somewhat. The answer is extremely hard to discern, although the problem, what caused it, and even the dates isn't too hard to pin down. I would, however recommend Catholic school over Public, although you really have to stay on top of what your kid is learning, and make sure you explain reality to her/him compared to what is actually being taught, maybe even on a daily basis. I feel I became a better man for attending Parochial school than public....

If we continue to tolerate the socialist, liberal garbage our schools are teaching our kids, then we will witness the downfall of the greatest nation in the history of Earth.

For a while I thought that vouchers was a viable solution to decrepit, under performing schools. But this article makes a good point that the curriculum will be controlled by the govt 'masters' if they opt to accept the vouchers.

There's not enough two parent households that can provide homeschooling, making the homeschool movement, too little too late.

At this point there is no solution other than a massive parental revolt. Yeah, I know, like that's gonna' happen.

There might not be a massive parental revolt, but if enough kids are fed up with "zero tolerance-zero brains" policies, unhealthy indoctrination policies in their public schools, and all the other BS, there might be some hope.

I think the majority of the problem is with the education schools:

To put your fears to rest about socialization and homeschooling, read the articles at this link: http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig/zysk1.html
http://www.tnhomeed.com/LRSocial.html
or the best one: http://www.hsu.edu/faculty/worthf/social.html

That should be enough. Why should children have to learn to deal with nasty, ugly, brutish behavior in an environment where they are trapped with no adult support for 7 hours a day ? Would you spend your days in a workplace like that which exists in most schools ? That-s why adults have harrassment laws - we don't put up with the garbage. We fix the problem or leave if it cannot be fixed. Kids are not allowed to "leave" and no kid should have to live it. Terrorists, no matter the age, cannot be negotiated with. Homeschool is the answer.

One of the most effective actions that could be taken would be a coordinated grassroots effort to have 10-15% of parents remove their children from the public schools for other alternatives. A target year should be set, say 2005. This gives enough time for home schooling collectives and small private schools to be set up. The date and purpose of the action should be widely spread via the Internet, church groups and other means.

Thanks much for the links!! I am far from being an expert at homeschooling, and didn't do it for my daughter, who fortunately, despite Mrsgwmoore's and my now obvious overlooking the obvious, managed to survive both the Catholic and Public indoctrination centers, get a higher education, and still remain rooted in conservative values ( She posts, incidentally, as FReeper trinity1 ;-) so the line continues!!

I seriously appreciate this good info on socialization, because that was one of the major reasons we didn't homeschool, and was obviously based on poor intel on the part of both of us.... however, we did manage to luck out with the result. I am going to print the articles out forall of us to read and gain a great educational opportunity!! Again, thanks much for your providing me with these great links.

The public school system is doing its job - preparing young Americans for a socialist future.

You're welcome, anytime you need some add'l info on homeschooling I probably have some references. And to those doubters who say there aren't enough two-parent families to pull their kids out of school, let me say this. I am a single working parent with a no-show non-support paying ex who manages to homeschool one kid and work and support both without assistance. Every one can homeschool and succeed if they look at the opportunities. Anyone with a reasonable kid can find a myriad of ways to keep the kid safe and learning all the time, whether it's school-type book work or hands-on involvement in an activity. Homeschooling is a lifestyle, not a job.
