Author: WMDs hidden in Syria: Writer of best seller says weapons evidence in Damascus

American and Israeli intelligence sources believe the elusive evidence of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction were – like many of Saddam's cronies – shipped to Syria for safe keeping, says Michael D. Evans, author of "Beyond Iraq: The Next Move."

In his column today, Evans explains that Saddam's weapons have been intermingled among Syria's "own substantial arsenal of unconventional weapons."

The Bush administration has said Syria has conducted a series of chemical-weapons tests.

Evans says it is not likely any of the WMDs in Syria will be transferred to Hezbollah or other terrorist organizations, partly because the nation's leader cannot risk the consequences of such a move.

"It appears – for now – that Syria is keeping its own WMDs and any it is sheltering for Iraq under close control and is not about to transfer some to Hezbollah in Lebanon," Evans writes. "While it is in Syria's interest to keep Israel on the defensive by encouraging Hezbollah radicalism, it is not in its interest to invite massive Israeli retaliation for a WMD attack."

Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin reports today Pentagon sources say plans are being made to hit Syrian targets hard in response to Damascus' support for fighters pouring into Iraq. The route these militants are taking into Iraq, Evans points out, is the same route used to bring to safety Saddam's staff – many of who are weapons scientists – along with Iraq's WMDs themselves.

As WorldNetDaily reported, Evans' book made headlines the week Sen. Hillary Clinton's book, "Living History" came out by booting the former first lady's memoir from the No. 2 spot on Amazon.com's list of best sellers. The paperback title tying the recent war to Bible prophecy was published by a small publishing company called White Stone Books.

"Beyond Iraq" argues that the recent conflict in the Persian Gulf had a much deeper significance than most people realize and points to Bible prophecy.

"What's transpiring in the Middle East now is not peace," says Evans. "It's appeasement."

A minister and journalist whose articles have been published in more than 150 countries around the world, Evans has produced 11 specials on the Middle East. He has appeared on hundreds of radio and television shows throughout America, including "Good Morning America," "Nightline" and "Crossfire."

Bush knows the damn things are in Syria, and the Syrians and everyone else know that we know. So let's get this show on the road and follow the trail to its end.
