Help Republicans Hold the Line on the Democrat Spending Problem!

Help Republicans Hold the Line on the Democrat Spending Problem!

Gray Davis hit a new low last Friday when he used a lowly bureaucrat to imposed a $4 billion tax increase on drivers in California by tripling the car tax. There was no vote of the legislature, just a cowardly and sneaky bureaucratic trick to increase a fee that harms California’s families.

Today and Wednesday, Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson and Democrats from the Assembly will be in Republican districts to lobby local government, police and firefighters to pressure Republicans into voting for even more tax increases.

Under the leadership of Senator Jim Brulte and Assemblyman Dave Cox, our Republican legislators are courageously holding the line against tax increases. They are getting the job done, and now we need to do our part to help hold the line.

I encourage you to show up where Democrats will be today and tomorrow and share the truth with local government officials about Democrats’ spending problems. New taxes are not the answer to the budget deficit. The Democrats have a spending problem, and it’s time they be cured.

• Fact: Gray Davis inherited a $10 billion budget surplus when he took office in 1998, but he squandered the people’s money and left the state with a $38 billion budget deficit in 2003.

• Fact: Gray Davis signed budgets that increased state spending 38 percent over the past four years, and each month the state spends $1 billion more than it takes in.

• Fact: Democrats want to increase spending in the current budget, despite the largest state budget deficit in the history of the nation.

• Fact: California has a budget deficit because Gray Davis and the Democrats can’t stop spending money the state doesn’t have.

As Republicans, it is our responsibility to expose Herb Wesson and the Assembly Democrats for what they are: big spending liberals who want to increase the size of government at the expense of working families.

Why do you through in there "as Republicans"? They're growing the government more than the Democrats have ever hoped for!

We are not speaking about the Federal Government which the Republicans grown the federal government. The state government is dominated by Democratic party members to the top and bottom where they have not admited that they have a spending problem.

Id like to see some fiscal restraint from the federal government side. Unfortunately Jim Brulte doesnt want to become US Senator yet.

Thanks for posting the schedule. I can't make any of the meetings. In Ventura County, I'm not sure who all the Assembly men are, but Assemblyman Tony Strickland and State Senator Tom McClintock are unlikely to cave into city council support for higher taxes. The democrats are wasting their time there, and I hope they become demoralized.

Help Republicans Hold the Line on the Democrat Spending Problem!

I thought the headline was a grim joke, until I realized the article is about California and not Washington DC.

Contrast that with the federal situation, where GOP congressmen supinely pass Dubya's spending increases. It seems that a GOP legislature with a Dem executive is the way to get fiscal responsibility; I'll vote accordingly in 2004.
