More than 850,000 Jews left Arab countries after the 1948 Arab-led war on Israel. Similar numbers of Arabs fled Israel around the same time.

While Israel absorbed the Jewish refugees, Arab countries kept the Palestinians in camps and refused to give them citizenship, using their plight as a weapon in the political struggle against the Jewish state.

Palestinians demand that the refugees and their descendants be granted a "right of return" to the homes they fled inside Israel.

I'd say that the 2 sides are about even. Let's call it a day and move on. Enough lives have been destroyed by Arab governments using Pallie refugees as a political tool to deflect attention from their failed dictatorial policies - on both sides.

Israel, which has indicated that it would offer the refugees compensation, sees that as tantamount to a call for the Jewish state´s destruction, since the influx of so many Arabs would negate Israel´s identity as a Jewish state.

Gee, sounds like that's been the plan since the camel jockeys realized that they couldn't defeat Israel by force of arms.

Peace negotiations broke down over the right of return issue in 2000. Now, some feel that Israel should use the claims of Jewish refugees as a bargaining chip in future negotiations.

Bargaining chip? Hell, no - Israel should say that the issue of a Pallie "right of return" is dead, given that a lot of Jews were similarly screwed by the politics of the last 55 years, and that such a "right" would amount to the destruction of Israel. Sharon should just flat out say "NO!" and let the chips fall where they may.

Jewish assets confiscated by Arab countries are estimated at more than $100 billion, according to Justice for Jews.

Israel should use this fact as a means of paying nothing to the Pallies - let their oil-rich Arab "brothers" pay them from the assets stolen from the Jews 50+ years ago.

While the United Nations has devoted 101 resolutions to the plight of Palestinian refugees, none has dealt with Jewish refugees, the group´s report states.

The UN is, for this and MANY other reasons, at best a totally worthless organization. More realistically, it is nothing more than a tool of anti-Western, anti-capitalist, anti-freedom dictators (and dictator-wanabees in the NGOs) to destroy the West. Both the US and Israel should each tell the UN to go F itself, and to invite an invasion if they don't like it. Since both nations have ample deliverable nukes and "rather good" (/British understatement) conventional armed forces (not to mention Israel's secret weapon, The Lord of Hosts), I'd say that nothing but a bunch of foaming at the mouth would result.
