"Some of the most creative people in history lived in ruthless, repressive societies or worked for a much stricter than now Church. "

And a goodly number of them were imprisoned or put to death for their creativity. When did the RCC get around to admitting that Galileo was right, again? Yes, there was creativity, but not within the auspices of the church.

Good answers.

You may also include that Jesus made a whip, then became quite violent, over-turning tables and assaulting temple workers. (He drove the money-changers out of the Temple on their big money-making day - Passover. He did this not once, but twice.)

Come on, now. Are you intentionally trying to ignore the fact that "godless atheists" are the ones most responsible for most imprisonments and murders?

Why are you so vocal in your damnation of the school's rules, and have such a mocking attitude toward Christians?

Because the theological arrogance of those who forget that there are Christians who decline from Pharisaic rule applications, and who ignore their viewpoints in describing what Christians do. Why not spend some time on the thread discussion the centrifuge they found in Iraq?

When I get around to it. BTW - I believe it, and as an optimistic neocon, I support the administration. I'm sure there will be some brain dead paleocon Buchananites to roast there when I decide to get around to it.

I wouldn't have lasted the first week when I was 18.

I wouldn't last a day and I'm 30 years beyond that age!

Sculptor, but not really an innovator. He did little different than Greek or Roman sculptors of antiquity. Besides, he was as queer as a 3 dollar bill.

Sure. Good example. Do you know much about his life? The church paid him for his artwork, but he wasn't all that popular with the powers that were. Check it out. When there's only one employer, you end up working for that employer, you see. Later on, during the Rennaissance, private folks paid the artists and engendered the biggest explosion of art, music, and learning. The church wasn't all that big on creativity. They did like nice big pictures for their story books, though.

You'll never find anyone who was creative at anything but autocracy and torture who worked diligently for a "much stricter than now" Church.

Bach--- Church Organist an composer thought "All Music is to be written for the Glory of God"

Michelangelo--Did a little painting for the Church.

St. Thomas Aquinas- Philosopher, theologian, doctor.

And as an artist, laying on paint pursuant to Papal commissions from a hopelessly corrupt see, he doesn't really strike me as someone who pushed the envelope.

Documentation? There are few real atheists in history, Theo. Even Hitler did not claim to be one. Stalin, yes, but he's a piker considering the entirety of history.

Yes, but I must say in His defense, that at least until the Resurrection, He was not "Entering the space above ceiling tiles"

No piercings or plugs of any kind

What kind of plugs are we talking about here? The only kind I'm aware of is only available at your local porn shop.

I beg to differ. It's the moral crusaders like Fallwell and his students who aim to codify their own morals into law. These are the type of people who brought you prohibition and blue laws, and the ones who today support legal bans on contraception, conseusual sodomy, medical marijuana and the like. So yes, they are trying to force their views on me and limit my--and everyone else's--freedom

Any proof that Falwell wants to ban contraception, outlaw homosexual acts between consenting adults, etc? Or is that just your assumption of what he wants?

And every law is an imposition of morality, even laws that would lift bans on drug use is an imposition of someone's morality. Please don't pretend that the religious right are the only ones trying to "impose" their morals.

1) None of my comments related to dress code, per the verses you quote. Other's have. Please address your comments to them.

2) Had they made rules against drunkeness, not posession of alcohol, I would not be critical as it is consistent with the scripture on which they base their institution.

3) I stand by my comments as they point out that the attitudes of the school authorities (especially with regard to alcohol) seem to have more in common with the teaching and traditions of the Pharisees, rather than the teachings and life of Christ.

4) How will students learn to lives lives controlled by the spirit, rather than controlled by man-made rules and regulations? See the post about the students doing shots in bars after graduation. Their time under strict regulation has led to rebellion, not maturity.

5) All of these students are well above the bar-mitzvah age where they would be considered responsible adults.

You make my point... they could not curtail their creativity.

There are times, adversity enhances it.

When Michelangelo was an active gay man, was he working for a stronger church?

Bach wrote commissioned music, sucking up to one of his main customers (one which could break him like a twig).

Aquinas was a typical example of what one could do in the twisty world of manufactured medeival Catholic theology, so he doesn't count.

DaVinci would count, but he wasn't particularly churchy, so that example is gone.

Let me see. I can list several.

Mao Tse Tung, killed millions of his own people in man made famines.

Pol Pot, Cambodian genocidal despot. Killed 1/2 of the entire nation of Cambodia.

All communist regimes are by their nature darwinist and atheistic. They are also by their nature, murderous and genocidal.

Anyone who believes that atheism has contributed anything positive in this world is not an observer of history. Even if you can find individual atheists who have contributed to this world in a positive way, they can not overcome the negative, genocial aspects of most of the atheistic states.

Sorry, he isn't trustworthy. His type never is, so his type can no longer be allowed political power.

of course the rules reflect an ideal, whhich few actually eached 100%.
