Disagree. While legalism is a works salvation, by having pharisee-like regulations that go beyond the basic needs of ensuring some basic Christian morality and trying to keep students sexually pure etc., they are unconsciously teaching that God doesn't love you if you sin and that people do not have the ability...even with the Holy Spirit...to control themselves. Instead, they need ridiculous restrictions to keep themselves in line.

I am a Calvinist, but quite frankly, it is heresy to limit the power of the Holy Spirit like that. In a Christian environment, the members keep eachother accountable and that is a POWERFUL enforcer in itself. A Christian college is a community of believers and that is powerful. They should not need an excessive number of rules from the top, just enough to ensure the community can work together effectively at keeping eachother accountable.

"they are unconsciously teaching that God doesn't love you if you sin "

They are not and that is directly opposed to what they "consciously" teach. Those rules simply say that you can't stay at Liberty University and do those things. It says nothing about whether God loves you. "and that people do not have the ability...even with the Holy Spirit...to control themselves. Instead, they need ridiculous restrictions to keep themselves in line. "

In corporations you have outside auditors. Not because you don't trust your financial officers. But because you know that not every one is trustworthy and that some people are going to fool you. So you trust noone. You hold everyone accountable in a corporation. The Bible says to hold each other accountable.

Having those rules in place enforces the environment. It allows the school to reprimand and kick out anyone who is disruptive to that environment. They need the regulations because with 10,000 students, a few are going to be disruptive. It doesn't say anything about the vast majority of the students.
