Bush enters a new phrase
JOHN INNES
HIS command of the English language may be ridiculed by some - but stock phrases used by George Bush, the United States president, have been brought into common usage in Britain.
"Regime change" and "road map" are among hundreds of new words featured in the latest version of the Collins English Dictionary.
Changing lifestyles are also reflected with the inclusion of phrases such as "Britneyfiction", "Brazilian bikini wax" and "chemical peeling".
And it seems rock n roll is back in fashion - "Dad rock", "post-rock" and "alt.rock" all feature.
Popularised by the tabloids, the word "shagtastic" also earns a place as does "puh-leeze" - a favourite of exasperated teenagers.
Technical, technological and scientific terms feature strongly in the latest version of the dictionary, published on 4 July, with "weblish" defined as the new abbreviated internet and text message language.
A new range of slang reflects todays streetwise type of internet user, the dictionarys researchers said.
The dictionary also includes dialect from across the country after research carried out by Collins found evidence for a renaissance in the use of regional words.
Among the Scottish words ranking a mention are bogging (filthy), baffies (slippers) and geggie (mouth).
A spokesman for Collins said: "Scotland has always had a rich regional dialect and many of the new words included have been about for many years."
Some of the most unusual words included in the dictionary come from Wales: appledrain (a wasp), coflop (a foxglove) and want knap (a molehill).

strategery is one of the finest words yet, but my personal favorite, on several different levels, is misunderestimation.
How can you top "misunderestimation" for, well, misunderestimating the President?
To: ChadGore
I give a good-natured chuckle to his mispronounciations, only because we all do it. I think it actually shows that the President is human, and not made out of wood like Gore is. :)

I like your comment. Isn't it wonderful to smile when you see him on television, instead of wanting to throw things at Clinton's face on the screen? Think about it, how many people do you just automatically want to smile at? It really is a nice change.

What words did Clinton add to the language? "Lewinsky"?
How about Gore? "controlling legal authority"?
Hillary? "vast right wing conspiracy"?
