An Israeli civilian was killed in a shooting attack Thursday morning in the Baka al-Garbiyeh area, along the northern seam line with the West Bank.
The victim, a Bezeq employee, was accompanied by bodyguards in a vehicle in the center of Baka al-Garbiyeh when the gunman approached the vehicle, opened fire and fled, Army Radio reported.
The gunman, a Palestinian teen, was wounded and captured by police and Border Police troops who arrived at the scene a short time later.
No group has claimed responsibility for the shooting, which took place amidst reports that the militant factions of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Fatah had reached a basic agreement to halt all attacks against Israelis for three months, both in the territories and in Israel.
Earlier Thursday morning, two Qassam rockets fired from the Gaza Strip landed next to the western Negev town of Sderot. One of the rockets hit a field beloning to Kibbutz Nir Am, but did not detonate. Police sappers were working to neutralize the rocket.
Overnight Wednesday five mortar shells were fired at Gush Katif settlements in the Gaza Strip. There were no injuries.
On Wednesday, Hamas vowed to avenge an Israeli strike in the southern Gaza city of Kahn Yunis, in which missiles fired by helicopters at two cards killed two people, including a woman.
The Israel Defense Forces said the helicopters fired the missiles at a Hamas cell that was about to fire mortar shells at an Israeli settlement. The attack came minutes after Palestinian officials announced that Hamas and other militant groups had agreed to a three-month halt to attacks against Israelis.
