June 26, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - President Bush yesterday prodded the European Union to take "swift, decisive action" to cut off money to the Hamas terror group - but he faces opposition from France.
France contends the political wing of Hamas is a legitimate player in the peace process and the French "non" is enough to block EU action, which must be unanimous.

There is no third party in the MiddleEast. Either they are for or against the terrorists, but they cannot pretend to be against while being for, that is an undisciplined and cowardly way of collaborating with them.

The more I hear of the french the more I think Germany didn't hit them hard enough in the last world war.

"... french ... NON ... EU must be unanimous..."
what I find so amazing about the above is how it bears out the adage "those who forget their history are doomed to repeat it". Unanimous... just like the Polish Diet. And like the impact of that quasi-feudal organization (where nothing could get done unless ALL the nobles consented, and which directly contributed to the weakened Poland that was partitioned out of existence in the 18th century...), the above requirement for EU actions means that the EU will likely be swallowed up by exterior, more focused, nation-states.
Looks like we're gonna have to prepare ourselves to save their collective Euro asses (again!!!) from the next calamity...
