Michael Straight, the publisher of the New Republic, was a family friend of the Roosevelts. He was recruited as a Soviet agent at Cambridge. Straight packed his magazine with communists. Eric Alterman's mentor, I.F.Stone, was one Straight hired. During that period (the late 1940s), the New Republic claimed there were no slave labor camps in the Soviet Union. The proof? Slavery could only exist under capitalism.

So many Communists spies....so little time.
could someone explain why Jewish people seem to lean towards Communism a tad more than other religious grups? Socialism, Communism seems to be a thread on these Jewish intellectuals.
