How did everyone find out that he/she is/was male?

I was out of the loop on that but I hear it was pretty interesting.

I never found out *how* he was actually outed, but I managed to glean the "why" from reading between the lines after the fact. People in the know were dropping ten-ton innuendos every time someone asked "whatever happened to CGEB?". And that question was asked a lot, so there were lots of hints.
