And if someone doesn't relate the hammer story they will all be considered fakes.

This is a great little send off for the late Senatur Thurmon.

Didn't he marry or have an affair with a Miss South Carolina at the age 65?

Was the first Mrs. Thurmond a Miss South Carolina? I didn't know that. I knew she was his secretary, though, and he fired her just before he proposed.

A classic Steynian sendoff. I am sure the good Senator will laugh his ass off when he reads it in the Heaven Herald.

Bob Dole on Strom's 90th birth day party in the senate, remarked..."Good news.. Strom's 4th wife was born today in Greenville, South Carolina."

He was a character, all right. Can't help but chuckle and wonder if he has managed to lift any angel hems yet.

Actually, the Book of Revelation says that fornicators will go into the Lake of Fire, but I suppose that's kind of a downer to mention.

Well, it's inaccurate, if Thurmond was a repentent sinner. Most people think he was, but that's only between him and Jesus, now, isn't it?

"Why, Mistuh Thurmond suh, what are you doin' here at this hour?"

Steyn used this line maybe about 6 months ago in another column? Doesn't matter - I laugh every time I read it. It's hilarious.

Thurmond and Nancy Moore, serving as Miss South Carolina, are shown in this 1966 file photo. The two later married, but are now separated.

"When ol' Strom dies, they'll have to beat his pecker down with a baseball bat in order to get that coffin lid closed."

I should be so fortunate.
