Democratic hopefuls, Arizona GOP woo Latino meeting

Democratic presidential hopefuls Joe Lieberman and Bob Graham Friday addressed Latino leaders at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials' annual meeting in Phoenix.

Sens. Lieberman and Graham spoke to the Phoenix conference via satellite and both Democrats criticized President Bush's economic policies and tax cuts.

Lieberman said he supported a worker permit program for Mexican migrants, as well as earned legal status for law-abiding, tax-paying illegal immigrants.

The Connecticut Democrat said current border policies are "immoral and unacceptable" and said he would hammer out an immigration-reform pact with Mexican President Vicente Fox. Former Arizona governor Raul Castro and Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox are among Lieberman's supporters.

Graham has also voiced support for guest worker program for farm migrants. The Florida Democrat also stressed the need for bilingual health care services and health coverage for immigrant children. Several other Democratic presidential candidates, including Sen. John Kerry, Congressman Dick Gephardt and former Vermont governor Howard Dean will address the Phoenix conference Saturday.

Arizona has an early presidential primary next year, leading numerous candidates to target the state. Bush administration officials, including White House legal counsel Alberto Gonzales and Republican Sen. John McCain, were also scheduled to address the Hispanic group on Friday. GOP Congressman J.D. Hayworth will hold a reception at the meetings on Saturday.

Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano addressed NALEO members on Thursday.

Jeez, another several months of pimping, pandering, and selling out on both sides. McInsane is a senile disgrace. Nappy ought to be tossed into Mexico.

It's going to be interesing to see just how this guy plans to get re-elected with no base, isn't it? Maybe he'll get rid of that Karl Rove dude and hire David Copperfield.

I don't know. If it's a choice between Bush and Howard Dean, what do we do?

Squaw-Gov should be dipped in beef blood and used as chum off Moss Landing in California. Well known Great White hangout.

What we do is vote Third, I don't care who it is. As long as we retain the House and Senate, anyone can be President. I'm voting Third to send a message.

I wonder if, anytime in the near future, Lieberman and Graham will be addressing white leaders at the National Association of White Elected and Appointed Officials.

It looks like all the politicians will have to deal with Fox to get his support. Isn't that interesting? For some reason, I think the wealthy John Kerry, the ketch-up man will win.

"...as well as earned legal status for law-abiding, tax-paying illegal immigrants."

How can they be 'tax-paying' if they're illegal?

Sometimes illegals get fake social security numbers and fake greencards, so the IRS withholds from their paychecks. Just as often, if not more often, they get paid in cash off the books, in which case they pay no taxes.

What I find even more odd is the phrase "law-abiding illegal immigrant." By definition they cannot be law-abiding.

"...as well as earned legal status for law-abiding, tax-paying illegal immigrants."

Let me get this straight.... how can some foreigner who has snuck into the country be 'law-abiding' when the first thing they did to get here is violate federal law?

How can they be 'tax-paying' if they're illegal?

If they are actually paying federal income taxes then they've likely committed felony document fraud. Illegals can't get social security numbers, but can get a tax ID number from the IRS (another inept agency that aids and abets the invader), but employers can't use the tax ID number as proof of eligibility to work.

Law-abiding criminals? Sure...... can't get much more Orwellian than that. I swear that the lefties must get pea-brain cramps trying to dream this idiotic propaganda up.

Yeah, I guess we out to just let the Democrats have all of the Hispanic vote. Then we will really win elections.

If Bush loses, the message that most people will get is that he was too conservative to win re-election. The Presidency is 100x more important than Congress. The President appoints judges. If the Dems are filibustering his judges, he must be appointing good ones.
