Malawian Muslims loot US charity, churches

Blantyre, Malawi - Rioting Malawian Muslims, angered by the arrest and extradition of five al-Qaeda suspects, have vandalised and looted a United States charity and several churches, after smashing the offices of a moderate Muslim organisation.

The riots began with protests by the Muslims against their own government for handing over the five suspects to US authorities, according to official sources.

On Friday night after prayers about 200 Muslims held violent demonstrations in Malawi's commercial capital, Blantyre, and then vandalised the office of the Muslim Association of Malawi.

Police fired teargas to disperse them. Malawi's President Bakili Muluzi is a Muslim but the demonstrators accused his government of surrendering its sovereignty to the US by allowing it to remove the five suspects, despite a court order to the contrary.

Later on Friday night the rioting spread to the southern lakeshore resort district of Mangochi where most Muslims live.

The rioters vandalised the office of the charity organisation, Save the Children USA, and at least five churches and hurt three people, said police Inspector-General Joseph Aironi, himself a Muslim.

Medical staff at Mangochi District Hospital said three people were injured during the violence. - Independent Foreign Service

funded as a "Religion of Peace" infomercial...I agree.

Mohammed probably is smiling a happy grin somewhere in one of the inner
circles of Hades whenever this sort of thing happens.

(I was suprised that even some fairly liberal media types felt the same way I did
about the PBS special...it really proved that Mohammed was a smart, brutal guy who
cobbled together a "religion", built a band of thugs, and had a way with the babes.)

I suspect that Islam has spread so widely because it appeals to a combination of human drives. On the one hand, it claims to be a high, pure theistic religion that worships the one true God, and that appeals to people's desire to be on the right side.

On the other hand, it appeals to many of man's worst instincts: lust, anger, hatred, craving for power, and the desire to shuffle off moral responsibility onto someone else, so you never have to worry whether something is right or wrong.

Muslims get to kill people, own slaves, marry numerous wives and divorce them at pleasure, and enjoy all the same rewards of lust and power in the next world, and they claim to have a God who actually approves of this sort of conduct because Allah hates infidels.

Christianity and Judaism emphasize free will and taking moral responsibility for your actions. Muslims just say, "Allah made me do it--so not only do I enjoy doing it, but it must be right."
