What few know is that most of the books were from the Magnus Hirschfeld Gesellschaft. In 1919, after Germany had been brought to its knees by Socialists and communists had set up, briefly, a Soviet Republic in Bavaria, Hirschfeld opened up a "museum" to homosexuality in Berlin. The reason they were burning Hirschfeld's "books" is because they wanted to burn his records. He also had some kind of Sex Research and Treatment Center (totally pro-homo) and many of the big Nazis went there, since many of them were homosexual. But there were two camps - the effeminate ones led by Hirschfeld, and the butch "manly" ones in the Nazi party. The Nazis hated the "femmes" and didn't want the "dirt" on their activities to be made public. It was a cover up to keep their pederasty out of the public eye.

Yup....but a reaction against what should be kept to oneself being foisted on the general public. The entire cabaret scene was that. Kurt Tucholsky thought he was so cute and smart but it wasn't long until he fled for his life and killed himself. The world would have been better off ifKurt and his boys never existed.
