I forgot to mention in my last reply that the biggest reason why Circuit City salespeople annoy me is that they are always pushing that "extended warranty" crap on you. Even for products with no moving parts that will 99% of the time run for 20 years before having a problem.

When I bring my purchase to a salesperson to check out, I tell them right away that I do not want the extended warranty. That usually shuts them up. Usually that is, there are some that will continue to try and sell it.

For electronic products such as stereo equipment and TVs, you just need the standard manufacturers warranty (which is free with the purchase of the product). If the equipment is defective, you will know in 90 days.

My complaint was with an alarm clock. It didn't ring loud enough to wake me, and the sound quality was poor for normal listening. It was new, I had the box, all assorted tags and the receipt. It was all of 48 hours old.

The first question was "Does it work?", and I said yes. Then, the barrage of question concerning "Why don't you like it?". Personally, I think that is none of their concern. I have the receipt, the box, the paperwork, the product in new condition and have returned it in a expeditious manner. To have to explain 'Why' I don't like it is simply irritating. Wrong color, wrong treble? You'd have thought I was trying to sell it to the return desk. I finally got my money back; and now my money goes where my body goes ..... someplace else.

Good point on the "extended warranty" scam.

One guy who worked there quit because he was under pressure to sell these worthless warrantiea as they had the highest profit margin. He had seen some salesmen walk away from people who didn't want warranties as the commission from just the goods was too low.

Before I quit going there and was presented with an
"opportunity" to buy I'd ask them "Is the product so shoddy I have to buy a warranty?" They never had an answer.

Sigh, if only this were true. Now, we don't go for the extended warranty stuff either, but about 18 months ago we bought one of the 32 inch Panasonic flat screen tvs and shortly after a year something went out on it to the tune of 130 bucks. The part is out again, but fortunately it is covered by the place that repaired it for a year. Obviously, there is something wrong with this part. Perhaps we should pen some letters to panasonic?
All I know is we are so frustrated with the thing, we moved it into the basement where it sits unused until the basement is finished and bought a cheaper, smaller tv for the family room. What's funny is every cheapy tv we have ever bought seems to last forever with no problems.
I had a 10 year old Sanyo that just stopped working last year. Hubby put it on the deck to go into the trash. It sat there and got rained on and snowed on, etc. Well a couple of months ago, his brother said if I can have it for free, we'll take it(this is an SSI family so they take whatever they can get for free). I'll be damned if that thing didn't work as soon as he plugged it in! Not a thing wrong with it now after a few months of use. This after 11 years now and sitting outside for the better part of 8 months. Go figure!

Hey, Sam, remember this thread? You were at 256 on your tagline. Many pantsizes ago. :-)

Well someone kicked this thread back to life, and for some reason, I'm reading it again. Curious tho, I have a different opinion of the article now than I did six months ago. Back then, I thought it was not too bright of CC to lay off their best performers, but this time after rereading all the complaints about their former business model, I have second thoughts. Something was obviously NOT working before.
