Many thanks to all of you for the prayers! FReepers are the strongest, most faithful group I know!

Dad's first MRI came back clean, so late yesterday afternoon they did another one, and we're waiting to have it read.

He has full function on his left side. He can move his right arm but not grip very well, and his right leg is cramping very painfully. You can actually see the muscles seize up.

He's coherent, although sedated - we asked him yesterday who the President was, and he said, "George DUBYA!", and he also talked about the Baylor basketball player and all the sports events Houston has been awarded (although he reminded me that we don't get one of them until 2011).

Grayson had to go back to school last night; he has a final on Monday, and he needed to get the last notes. He'll be back in town this afternoon, and will let me know when the doctor gives him the MRI results. He's holding up quite well - very impressive when you consider he's only 23.

Please keep those prayers coming . . . he and Grayson can use all they can get. My thanks to all of you.

It's a blessing already that you are there for them. I'll pray for more. And it's good to hear of movement on your dad's right side, no matter how incomplete it may be at this early juncture.

Prayers on the way. FReeper prayers work wonders. I speak from experience, when I had a heart attack last year, FReeper prayers kept me here on the topside of the sod.

The above advice is very good. Any future indications of another stroke, get him to a hospital fast. The drugs they have now can reduce damage to almost nothing, but they must give them in the first hour of the event.

You say that you are not close to him, that is fine. Just try to solve differences if you can. It is possible to be on good terms and still not be close if that is what you want. Just be aware that his health could go south real quick at some point and you don't want to live with regrets over something that you could have solved.

Keep your sword sharp . . .

Get Dad to a good doctor who will schedule a carotid sonogram. I think that is what mine was called.) He isn't getting enough oxygen to his brain and may need surgery. I had this surgery on one side ten years ago and so far it has been successful.

My maternal grandfather had this corotid artery surgery performed last year by a well-known doctor in this field in New York. He's been fine since.

My paternal grandfather also had a "mild stroke" a few weeks ago. He woke up and a bi of his vision was blurred in the left eye. He is getting the same surgey by the same doctor in a few weeks.

Prayers to your whole family.

After my mom had her stroke, which would have killed her had she not been in the hospital already for outpatient surgery, she was severly impaired. Everyone was getting very frustrated with the lack of ability to communicate with her, and her with us, when I finally found some info on the net about music. It seems when things are thrown off-kilter due to a stroke or any head injury, music, singing, etc is able to filter through because of the different way our brains process it.

Since I don't know the seriousness of your bio-dad's stroke, and effects of it, all I can suggest is if things get frustrating for Grayson, or you, or anyone, throw some music he enjoys on, and everyone should relax.

I also "sang" talked to my mom. She could understand more that way. I felt terribly ridiculous when I started, especially with my brothers watching "their crazy sister", but the response from her made all that go away.

Affairs need to be in order also.

Best of luck and remember God has it all planned out, and its all good at the end.

Heavenly Father,

You are the source of our strength and You possess all power to heal. Thank You, Lord, that many prayers are going up now for Xenalyte's father, and that You are responding to all the needs that he and his family are experiencing. Calm their fears, Lord, and give them peace of mind. Please bring healing to this father, Lord. Surround him with his family and give each of them the courage, strength, and faith they need to endure this trial. We know that nothing is too difficult for You. We commit this family to You in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

P.S. Food is always a good idea. Also, helping with the laundry, cleaning, etc.) will make it easier on your brother and your father. Good luck.
