[history]
HOWARD Leach, President Bush's ambassador to France, says the friction between America and its erstwhile ally are "in the past and now part of history." When an ambassador is so out of synch with the people he's supposed to represent, maybe it's time for him to come home. Leach needs to familiarize himself with the depth and intensity of anti-French feeling in the United States.

I don't think the French were ever our "allies."

Recall Leach. Appoint Bill O'Reilly as Ambassador to France.

Look at last year's presidential elections: 18 percent backed either the Communist Party, the Trotskyite Socialist Workers Party, or the Communist-allied French Green Party; another 19 percent voted for Jean Marie LePen, the anti-Semite who said that the Holocaust was a "detail of history." So, between the anti-Americanism of the left and the racism of the right, 40 percent of French voters are nuts.
Yet more reasons why "proportional representation" sucks

Over there, over there,
Send the word, send the word, over there!
That the Yanks aren't buying, the Yanks aren't buying,
The drums rum-tumming ev'ry where
So prepare, say a prayer, send the word, send the word to beware
It's not over, we're not coming over,
And we won't be back 'til it's over OVER HERE!

Only in the sense of "enemy of my enemy is my friend" in the American Revolution. They did that mostly to oppose the British rather than out of friendship for us.

We seek the support of other countries not just as a diplomatic nicety, but because we need their help to repel the assault on us and our values. Those who help us, we should help. To those who freeze us out, we should return the favor in every way we can.Amen. Preach it, brother!

Correct.

And since then, they have done nothing but oppose us. One that gets overlooked is the fact that they tried to undermine Reagan's firing of the airtraffic controllers.

...DICK MORRIS is now confirming that the CLINTONS did indeed refuse 3 Presidential Offers from the Sudan to extradite OSAMA bin LADEN to a U.S. Trial during the 1990's that would have prevented the Attacks of 9/11/2001 ahead of time =
...Friend of the CLINTONS Associated Press suddenly quotes "Sources" that BUSH turned down 3 "Opportunities" to drone-kill OSAMA bin LADEN in 2001.
Get the Picture..?

The same could be argued for our involvement in two europeans wars last century. It had a lot more to do with the british being helped than the french ever.

What's your point? The end result is still that a lot of our boys died liberating them -when they showed no inclination towards liberating themselves.

I hope America continues to oust the people who are against them. I hope this is a warning to the businesses and governments in this country that we, the people, are tired of their constant abuse. I realize the greed and graft are pretty deep and look impossible to dislodge; but if we continue to chip away, maybe we can get rid of a lot of it. I think some of our current celebs found that out; and no matter how much they scream about being victims; it just ain't so. They created their own messes. Now it's time to pay the piper.

The point being that the same can be said of your comment in reverse, regarding american motives for involvement in the continent. The french certainly DID take horrid casualties in WWI and WWII fighting the germans before the americans were even involved (particularly WWI, where the US joined in in the last year).
I don't think your below comment accurately reflects this. I am not pro-frankish at all, but just because in the modern era France has become a sort of Judas-type player in international politics doesn't mean the past has to be recast to suit the new role. France provided absolutely critical aid to the British colonists guilty of insurrection (many of these same rebels had been fighting the french just a decade before, and had kicked them out of the midwest, leaving only placenames), and the US also has provided tremendous help to france, particularly in the second world war, but also in the first.
