We're talking about what might happen in the future, so my guess is no better than anybody else's, but this article has a "portent of doom" ring to it that seems overblown. "Worst performance ever... absolute fiasco... very, very costly." What? Fifty frigging basis points! Geez, cool yer jets. If they have to, they can have another meeting next month and chop another 50.

Actually we are getting to the point where there isn't enough left to trim - 50 more basis points will put most money markets into operating deficits, which means that many cash management accounts (CMA)'s will be LOSING money each quarter. The plus side to that is that perhaps people will be encouraged to spend the money on products and services to create even more demand in the economy. This baby should be turned around by 2004, 2005, I hope
