Expert Warns Number of Stinky Feet Rising

The number of Singaporeans with foul-smelling, fungus-covered feet is rising and health authorities want to tackle the problem, a leading doctor in the famously tidy city-state said Thursday.

The number of athlete's foot fungal infections seen at the National Skin Center has nearly tripled to more than 1,000 last year from 350 in 1995, said Dr. Seow Chew Swee, the center's senior consultant dermatologist.

"We get very offensive ones. Some people are very apologetic and don't want to take off their shoes in front of us," Seow said.

The increase has prompted the National Skin Center to hold a seminar on athlete's foot and other related skin problems as part of a public education campaign.

Seow attributed the growing problem to changing lifestyles on this wealthy, tropical island. More people are walking barefoot around swimming pools where the fungus can spread, he said.

Behavior modification campaigns are common in tightly controlled Singapore, which has in the past held drives to make people more polite, reduce spitting in public and clean up public toilets.

I hope that nobody finds the problem increasing in the US. We'll end up with a federal department for it and the situation will only get worse.

Problems we worry about in the US: unemployment, homelessness, debt, shooting, terrorism, aids, budget deficits, paying for meds, drug and alchohol abuse.

Problems in singapore: stinky feet.

Forget those remedies they sell on TV that you are supposed to use for weeks. Clorox, applied to the feet, and rinsed off after one minute, cures Athlete's Foot instantly.

Apparently the Singaporeans do not have corn, from the Americas. They also must not subscribe to the organic magazine called "The Dirt Doctor's Dirt" by Howard Garrett... the Texas radio commentator on gardening.

One day the topic of fungicides came up and a farmer called up and explained to the audience the power of CORN MEAL as a fungicide. It was so powerful he applied it to his feet with terrific results. After that watershed program, other callers reported similar results and novel adaptations.

Some would dip their feet into a bucket of corn meal powder before putting on their work boots, others would prepare a watery bath.

I know this sounds too funny to be true, but it really is true. Go to his web site: www.dirtdoctor.com and lookup cornmeal in his information directory. Right under the first paragraph describing how to use cornmeal to fight the problem of brownpatch on your Texas St. Augustine grass, you'll find the part about using it for athlete's foot.

It's humorus, effective, and totally organic. Although I'm sure Chlorox works quicker. But is it safe over a long period of time?

Please note, it is not corn GLUTEN meal, but just CORNMEAL. There is a slight difference in the processing. The gluten meal is used for other purposes. Get the cheaper CORNMEAL at your farm supply. Unfortunately, it comes in 50 pound bags, so the operative phrase "A little dab will do 'ya" might be too conservative.

Yeah, bleach works wonders. It softens too. Keeps the toenails healthy and pink. I don't use it straight. I soak in a Bleachy foot bath.
