[history]
The state's budget standoff showed little sign of lifting Sunday as the Assembly rejected a Republican plan to balance the budget without new taxes.
The 3 1/2-hour Sunday session was extraordinary, but the rhetoric on both sides was much the same as in recent months leading up to the impasse.

Gee, I'm sure that Presidente Fox would be happy to pay a portion of what the California taxpayers pay for goods and services to Mexican citizens. Start with all the medical services that hospitals proved to Mexicans, then, all the workers' compensation paid to Mexican citizens who were not told that it was not legal for them to work in the US, and all the costs associated with Mexicans not carrying the mandatory liability insurance.

I do not understand. Cuts should occur in service programs that are less than 5 years old plus nonservice programs such as the Arts and etc. Service programs that did not exist for more than 5 years do not exist long enough to build a large dependent population. Otherwise how did these people survive 5+ years ago?? Using this as a simplistic criteria for cuts, are CA politicians saying it can't be done?? CA is pathetic.

I do not understand.Let me make it simple. - They are California Democrats fighting for political power.
- They have lied, are lying, and will continue to lie.
- At least 50.1 % of those who vote in California are to blame.

Only the Federal Government can lie about a deficit because they can always print more money. States do not have this option. CA people better wake up because they are spending more then they are taking in. They better make hard choices or they will wake up with no services because the state government does not have money to pay their workers and their credit rating is sooooo bad, they can not even borrow money.
