Based off what I grew up thinking cooter meant, I would have guessed a cooter shell was a pair of panties.

If "y'all" makes it in, then the Northeastern "yous" (aka "youse", "yez") had better as well.
Not only Southerners pluralize "you" and Southerners do it irregularly: no other noun is pluralized by adding "-all" - most nouns, like "yous", are pluralized by adding "-s".

I only lived in Texas two years, but "y'all" still creeps into my vocabulary once in a while.
In Texas, there are at least five distinct pronunciations of the word. Where I lived -- Temple, in central Texas -- people commonly broke it into two distinct words, "You All," with the emphasis on the first word.

A good ol' boy was asked, if "y'all" means "you," then what's the word for "all of you?"
Without blinking he replied, "all y'all."

You know you're Southern when you understand the nuances between "y'all" and "all y'all"...
