'Mammy Condoleezza' Parody Prompts Apology; NAACP Mum

A Florida radio station has apologized for letting one of its hosts air a racist song parody about National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice. But the apology comes no thanks to the local chapter of NAACP, which was contacted about the racial outrage but decided not to complain on behalf of the top black Bush official.

The song "Condoleezza," aired repeatedly by WQAM-AM Miami radio host Neil Rogers, a harsh critic of President Bush, was a vicious racial assault on Rice that described her as a "black-haired answer-mammy" who "cleans all the White House bathrooms."

Angered over the radio racism directed toward the nation's highest-ranking African-American woman, Robert Oliver, producer for the "Interactions" radio show on Chicago's WBEE, complained to WQAM about "Condoleezza" in December. It was he, not anyone with the Miami NAACP, who finally extracted the following apology from station management, which was broadcast Jan. 17 on WQAM.:

"Recently Neil Rogers, one of our broadcast personalities, aired a parody with derogatory comments regarding Condoleezza Rice and her heritage. Ms. Rice is a respected senior official of our government and, on that basis alone, deserves to be addressed with respect.

"As broadcasters, we take our role as steward of the public airwaves very seriously and wish to inform listeners that Mr. Rogers' comments and opinions are his and his alone. Station personnel at WQAM and its owner, the Beasley Broadcast Group, DO NOT share Mr. Rogers' views on this subject and satire and we offer our sincere apology to anyone who was offended by this broadcast." [End of Apology]

To anyone who was offended? How could anyone not be offended with song lyrics such as these:

"Condoleezza" (Sung to the Nat King Cole classic, Mona Lisa)

"Condoleezza, Condoleezza, what you be doin'?
That neo-facist black-haired token schwarze dog.

"Is you there 'cause you a high-toned public Negro?
Is you their black-haired answer-mammy who be smart?
Does they like how you shine their shoes, Condoleezza?
Or the way you wash and park the whiteys cars.

"Georgie junior says he trusts you, Condoleezza.
Who said our [unintelligible] off the greedy oil woes.
But then he make you clean all the White House bathrooms.
The public sink, the toilet and let's scrub the floors."
(End of Excerpt)

Oliver, who also works with the Illinois Freedom Project, told us on Friday that he was satisfied with the station's apology, although there's no indication that WQAM is ready to discipline the race-baiting Rogers, whose own voice was conspicuously absent from the station owner's apology.

When NewsMax.com first the reported on the "Condoleezza" hate parody in late October, the racial sensitivity police decided to take a powder. Ditto two weeks later, when Fox News Channel's Heather Nauert attempted to interview Rogers about "Condoleezza," and was taunted by sexual vulgarities instead. Credit for forcing WQAM's apology also goes to Congress of Racial Equality National spokesman Niger Innis, who worked with Oliver behind the scenes.

So where was the outrage from the rest of the press over Rogers' racist attack on Rice? Apparently the media were too busy getting their knickers in a twist over Trent Lott's gaffe to notice this bit of Jim Crow-style bigotry polluting south Florida's airwaves.

Right under the noses of Miami's NAACP.

Since the job of those who distribute news is to distribute information that is true, these people need to be fired.

How incredibly stupid would an on-air radio personality have to be to read an email on something such as this as a news item??

Of course, the Old Queen Neil Rogers is the same one who referred to Condoleeza Rice in very derrogatory, unflattering and insulting terms in the past few months as well.

His street cred level is far below zero as far as I'm concerned...

Of course not.

Racism is okay if it is directed at Republican minorities.

Thanks for posting this. Thank God this rumor wasn't true. This radio host needs to be fired now. The Condoleezza "song" was bad enough.

You are right. It IS disgusting. Both Katherine Harris and Condaleza Rice should sue the newspaper just for malicious libel.

If he called up a relative of Harris and said that, that's the tort of intentional (or at least negligenct) infliction of emotional distress.

But what if a relatve heard it on the radio?

And here a small tidbit I found in the democratic underground forum:

A local radio show this morning was discussing Michael Savage & his termination from MSNBC & the host got off the subject about Rush Limbaugh.I had never heard any of his claims & wondered if anyone here had. Now, this guy is a BIG TIME loud mouth who leans to the right, but he's not to bad(he tries to be fair but I still get pissed at times w/him.As long as stays clear from politics, I think he's very entertaining)He says he loves daytime talk radio more than anything, but says Limabugh is a BIG PHONEY!! He claims, Rush made up the story about him going deaf to boost ratings & gain sympathy. When reporters began digging in to see if his claims were tue,Rush got very defensive over simple innocent questions like"Who's your Doctor","How long have you expierenced this?", "What other sypmtoms do you have?" Reporters began to suspect something over his snappy & bitchy attitudes. When digging into his claims, the only thing they discovered was Limabugh had some considerable cosmetic surgery done, but they could not find ANYTHING re:his hearing problems(No records of hearing tests,Doctor Appointments,RX's, etc.) Is there any truth to these claims?Anyone know?

You're so right, thank God this wasn't true. Can you imagine the emotions that family members and close friends of Katherine Harris may have lived through had they heard this. Anyone continuing to employ such a evil person deserves a good freeping and more....
