The study is on civilian OWNED firearms not government issued firearms as the Swiss have. To be clear here, the Swiss also allow private ownership of firearms. As I understand it, the issued rifle becomes their private firearm after they reach a certain age. I think it was somewhere in the late 40s.

On that AFN special I saw, a camera crew walked into a shop with a Swiss guy and he walked out with a new Colt revolver in about 10 minutes. I was impressed.
