Geniuses, criminals do best work in their 30s

LONDON (Reuters) -- Geniuses and criminals may not seem to have much in common but they both do their best work in their 30s -- and mainly to impress the opposite sex.

When Satoshi Kanazawa, of the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, studied biographies of prominent, mostly male scientists he discovered that they made their key discovery before their mid 30s, around the same age that criminal behavior peaks.

    Some women can't resist bad boys.  Scott Peterson, 
    jailed in California on charges of killing his wife, 
    Laci, and their unborn son, Conner, is getting tons of 
    fan mail from adoring women, The Modesto Bee reported 
    yesterday.

    The stack of letters includes one written by a woman 
    serving time for killing her husband. Experts said 
    they're not surprised, noting that guards sometimes 
    joke that Death Row inmates have an easier time 
    finding dates than do their jailers.

    Serial killers Ted Bundy and Richard Ramirez were 
    married in prison, and Oklahoma City bomber Timothy 
    McVeigh received several marriage proposals.
    "They don't know if he's dangerous, if he did it, if 
    the letter will get through. It's drama with a capital 
    D," said Sheila Isenberg, author of "Women Who Love 
    Men Who Kill."

    Peterson, 30, has pleaded innocent to the murders. 

 

It is hard to explain the females who write love letters to Scott Peterson in prison. The fact that there are women who are attracted to men who kill their wives says somehing about our society.

What is it with some women and bad boys? I never understood that...

Simple.

An aggressive personality is often--maybe always--more important to success than pure brain power.

Therefore, it would be one successful evolutionary strategy for women to be attracted to such men, thereby unwittingly giving their offspring the same aggressive trait.

And I would add that the happiness of the woman who carries on with such an aggressive male is not important if the offspring from such a union recieve a successful upbringing.

It might be that the criminally agressive male passes his genes down through the generation by attracting and impregnating women, which women eventually leave him, taking the children so produced with them to a meeker male who is better equipped to pay for raising the aggressive male's children to adulthood.

LOL--in such cases, the world believes the woman was enlightened by experience to learn to appreciate the "right" kind of man, that she has (gag) "matured."

As I always say there is such a thing as "TOO much of a good thing!" :)

If it is their offspring they are concerned with I wonder if they ever consider the odds are:

1. He won't be around to be a DAD if he is in jail.
2. He will most likely be a looser Dad.

Therefore they increase the statistics of replicating another non-contributing member of society.

I would suppose that like body traits, emotional traits in men and women span a broad spectrum.

In the case of being attracted to men because of their aggressiveness, those women who are attracted to murderers fall at the extreme end of the spectrum.

Some may be a little unhinged themselves.

But worrying about who will raise their kids is not part of their mental planning.

Should needing support for the children of such a union become an issue, they can hope to find a meeker male to marry or somehow otherwise get by (public relief?).

The main thing is they have created children who carry aggressive genes.

That they may have equipped their kids with extremely agressive genes and have set them up to be raised in a less than ideal environment, is not part of their thinking--because thinking is not desire.

Curiously, in such extreme cases, the creation of children bearing such aggressive genes may also be often paired with a disavantaged childhood for want of a full-time father, increasing the chance those children in-turn may become criminals.

But at all events, realize that such women may have evolved such extreme desires in the not so civilized past, when what passes today for criminal behavior might have passed for commendable behavior in the world of cavemen.

I may remind you, that in the days of Ancient Rome, pot-bellied and over the hill but otherwise distinguished aged men of prominence thought womem irrational because the young babes they married were childish for not appreciating such men of worth as these out-of-shape Roman nobles, their husbands, were.

In short, because young dames didn't appreciate their worthy qualities, these old fellows flattered themselves by choosing to believe women had no brains, rather than admit that young women had a right not to swoon over them.
